Jammed on a KT88 loaded Splawn ProMod

Other guitarist in my roommate's band bought one of these (older one set of controls version) and I was very impressed with how it sounded. Very huge, very aggressive, nice low end. Right from that first note I grumbled to myself thinking "Dammit GAS, go away." Clean channel didn't get really clean, but I didn't spend much time tweaking it.

I was definitely considering one, but I have my concerns about being able to obtain more modern metal tones through 'em, the ProMod seemed to nail it no problem, but I still haven't heard many well recorded QuickRod clips. The only thing I'd want is seperate EQ's for the Clean / Overdrive channels, which is what the Quickrod and the new ProMod has.
