  • fair trade?

I've been thinking about letting my 4x12 cab go (1x12 tube combo is plenty...) and put it on craigslist hoping to find a local buyer..
Somebody's offered a trade, a '63 ampeg tube amp for it.. he says it's been fully serviced (caps/other electronics) and retubed about 6 years ago. I could possibly see a nice clean amp coming in handy...
    Is this a reasonable deal?

Maybe - is it a tiny cheap Ampeg or one with a lot of features? I think it would be clean, because I've never heard "Ampeg" and "good distortion" used in a sentence together.

I'd say find out the model, do some searching on ebay to find out how much they sell for, and finally if the deal is still appealing, go hear it and see if you like the tone.

I am guessing it is a Reverborocket. The originals have same of the warmest and creamiest clean to scream tones available anywhere, that end around Gibbons' 'El Loco' era. The tones put some contemporary boutique builders to shame. Hopefully the present ower had it rebiased for 6L6s, as Ampeg had a habit of chosing obscure tubes.

I played that amp the last time I was up there and liked it a lot, good cleans. I was in a hurry and didn't get a chance to play it dirty.

My friend has a Ampeg and it sounds sweet distorted.

What kind of 4x12 is it?
