I've had mine for about a month and love it. I run a Boss delay in the loop and that's it. I set it at about 400ms to fatten up my sound and leave it there.

I'm pretty much a "dry" guy, no chorus, reverb, flange...the delay is a new thing for me and I'm digging it.

The "amber" channel on this amp is incredible. Twisteramps(Pete) has one and plays the guts out of it - maybe he will chime in.

Run the EQ at noon, and tweak gently from there. I wouldn't stick a BBE in the loop, it makes most amps sound like shit because people crank them up and suck all the mids out. Be careful with the presence and resonance also. If you dime the presence/treble/bass and cut the mids all the way out, it's going to sound like shit.

I think you should just try to get a good sound out of it using nothing but the guitar first, then worry about adding stuff.

The active eq is very responsive to the level of the ch volume. The higher the volume is set the more active the eq. Try diming the Ch volume and using the master for your level and you will see what I mean. You will find yourself turning the treb, mid and bass right down...Actually you want to turn down to begin with and increase as you like. The volume will increase as you turn up the eq.

how would these work for metal? I read on the PV website that they designed the JSX to have a wide range of gains.


Also, is this amp sort of an evolution of the PV ultra amp?

If you want to go the stomp box route I would suggest checking out the Line 7 DL4 Echo Park stomp box delay. It gets rave reviews everywhere.
If you want to color the gain via a stomp box I would suggest a Tube Screamer.
For a stomp box tuner I would go with the Boss TU2.
For wah I would suggest the Morley Bad Horsie 2 Contour Wah.
For stereo chorus (if you need it) I would suggest the Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble.

That should pretty much cover you for anything. You don't need a solo boost pedal because the JSX is 3 channels.

In front of the amp:
Guitar--tuner--wah--Tube Screamer--AMP INPUT

Effects loop: delay pedal--stereo chorus

Delays work better in the loop. The stereo chorus sounds good in the loop or in front of the amp. To me... I like it in the loop better because by adjusting the level on the stereo chorus you can use it as a slight boost so that your chorus doesn't thin out your sound when you step on it.

Yep yep... I was kind of displeased to find that out when I jammed on one a while back. Cool though that they put that in since those Peavey amps can be a bit much with the white noise / hissing when you're pushing the gain.
