  • Home amp

I've never owned a really nice home/practice/combo amp. I've owned SS Peavey's and Line6. I've never owned a tube combo. Recently at my tone party I saw several that gave me GAS. This summer I will treat myself. I'm leaning toward boutique and not so worried about cost. It must be practical because it's not gonna be a discussion piece. It WILL be used, almost daily. It won't leave the home but maybe a few times a year, if that.
    I want:
    Tube
    1-12
    50 watts or less
    Retains a good value
    2-channels w/fs
    reverb
Must have some bite but doesn't need to be metal

I played a VOX AC-30. Vintage looks, no balls, too big.
Played a Zinky - LOVED the grind.
    Next up - testing a Carr Slant6V

I've always wanted to try a Carvin Nomad. How do they compare? What's the sound?

Try a Mesa Subway Rocket or .22 or something like that.

Laney AOR 50 Combo. It's even a sealed cab. Hope you are strong, it's heavy.

I went to MB site - I liked what I read about the Mesa Stiletto Ace. I think I'll have to test one out at my local dealer. I'll compare it with the F's.

The Peters Dual channels have everything you want except reverb. I have some clips in my sig. He offer other channels than the ones I have.

I liked it Frosty. I just emailed ol' Pete and asked him about a combo version. Thanks for the clips.

You're welcome! Pete is killer to do business with. He doesn't make combos though.

See my thread on the Soldano Astroverb. Not 2-channel though, but everything else you're looking for.

Check out a Rivera Chubster or Clubster, perhaps. Sound clips should be available at the Rivera website for the Clubster. Supposedly the Chubster sound clips will be available "soon".

Takeoffs are optional but landings are mandatory.

Thanks for reminding me. I think I have a review on the Clubster in Guitar mag. I'll dig that up.

Gotta have my 2 channels and 'verb. I was just at the store - looked at a Heritage. Nice amp but it was single channel. I also looked at the Mesa Mark IV. A real beauty in flame maple and wicker grill. No reverb.

I think the amp that would totally fit the bill for you is the Carvin X60 1 x 12 combo.
It has all the requirements you are looking for. To me... its the best sounding 1 x 12 combo I have ever owned and trust me... I have owned alot of 1 x 12 combos.

mark IV should have reverb. the control should be on the back if it isn't a wide body. the mark IV is the ULTIMATE home amp. that sucker sounds glorious at low volume. i actually prefered mine at quiet volumes.

Hmmmm... I didn't check the back carefully. I was being mesmerized by the glorius tubes. What's a Carvin X60? Didn't see it on their site. I'm going for brand new.

The x60 is a long discontinued model. You may like the V3 though. I'm temped to get on myself. There are some good vids on you tube if you search for carvin v3.
