  • Splawn has arrived!!!

I've been through many amps over the past several years. I can honestly say that upon plugging into any of my amps that I've puchased I've always felt underwhelmed. They sound good in the store or whatever, but when I get them home somethings always been missing. Usually after some tweaking time I've been able to find tones I've been happy with.

I won't list all the amps I've been through, but only two have impressed me right out of the box. The first was my bogner shiva I purchased about 2 years ago. This amp has seen them come and go. Now the second amp would be the Splawn. I just received this last week. I was hoping it would sound halfway decent at low volumes, but from what I read about it I wasn't expecting much. I new it would have the goods at higher volumes, but I wanted soemthing versatile for low volume jamming. I'm happy to report that this amp floored the shit out of me! Great tone at all volume levels. This amp has that really pushed hot rod marshall tone, but retains clarity. This amp also had allot more ass end than I was expecting. I mainly play 80's metal and generally like to have a bit more gain in my playing than typically found in some of the songs. Over all this amp fits my style perfectly.

Grrrrr!!! I wished you had said that it sounds like crap at low volumes. I read that they needed to be loud. I just bought an Marshall Studio 15 watter to get me the tone with a vintage Super Overdrive. Hopefully it does the job.

congrats, I've been kind of jonesing for a splawn Lately too.
I'm still trying to decide between the 5150 and a Quickrod.
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

I've tried the 5150 and it was a great amp. I don't think it compares to the Quick Rod though. Their is some serious gain in this amp and it resonates extremely well. The touch response is incredible.

I've heard some really good things about the studio 15. I would think w/ the proper OD pedal it would sound great. If you haven't tried MI Audios Crunch Box I'd recomend it. It has a good amount of low end and its one of the best OD's I've tried w/ out adding any brightness to an amp. Actually it has a darker tone.
