I thought I was going to explode waiting for this to arrive, but I waited patiently for Pete to work his magic. It was well worth the wait. I just finished a 2 hour test drive, and my fingers hurt.
You would not believe how loud this thing is. 18 watts of thunder!!! I had it cranked, and my ears are ringing.
Serious review: I plugged into the simple Tone/Volume channel first. It's very smooth, and mellow with lots of mids and bottom. It overdrives nicely as you turn the volume up, and responds very nicely to my SD1 to spice it up a little. This channel is great for ZZ Top type stuff, dirty and thick, and it really howls on the skinny strings.
The TMB channel (Treble/Mid/Bass) was a huge surprise. I figured it would be the more subdued of the two, but it's quite the opposite. This channel is great for AC/DC, Zeppelin, or anything that needs a little more edge to it. The tone controls are very versatile. This channel breaks up a lot faster than the other one, and approaches a lower gain type metal sound when cranked, and even more so with a pedal. It's wild.
Overall, the amp is very quiet, and Pete did a fantastic job putting it together. I couldn't be happier. I think it looks awesome too. I put a logo on it since Pete didn't. Hope you don't mind Pete! Thanks in advance to all the people who are gonna tell me the logo is wonky.
I am going to build a matching 4 x 10 cab very soon with Eminence speakers. I'm thinking of using either Ragin Cajuns or Ramrods, or maybe 2 of each. Either way, it's going to be solid pine, and extra deep (16").
A huge thanks to Pete for building me a fantastic amp, and the privilege of being number 1.
