  • Power amp problem

Hey. Just been playing through my set up and it just started to crackle and pop randomly. Turned off to stand by, turn back on again and it started popping and farting again within a couple of seconds. so i guess it's the power tubes.

As i'm going to need new ones. What are the advantages of EL34's? and what are the Advantages of 6L6's?

How easy are the tubes to change in a Peavey Classic poweramp?

You must have a different Classic than I had. My old Peavey 50/50 was el84's. Freakin 8 of them I think. Takes alot of 84's to make 100 watts.

its easy if you get power tubes with a matching rating of what is in there now. should be a code on the base of each tube.
preamp tubes (12ax7/ecc83s) or driver/phase inverter tubes do not need to be matched.

try replacing the 12ax7s first, if its still noisy replace the power tubes, if its still noisy take it to a tech.
