Bought a new amp... Randall RM100

[Twisteramps]

...a used Randall RM100. It's the amp with the modules - takes three of them. Bought it with the 'clean' and the 'brown' modules, will probably buy the XTC or Recto. And of course, mod the hell out of them.

So far, I really like the concept, just hope it works out. Haven't played through one, so I'm going on a limb here, but I've heard great things.

Anyone else here have one?

Dude, get the XTC. That was the most responsive high gain module I played at the store. I didn't care for the Recto, 1086 or the Ultra. You might also look into the Blackface and the Top Boost. Those were some awesome low gain modules.

I have also been curious. When they first came out I thought this was/is a great concept but I never had a chance to try them out. I just figured that it was too good to be true!

Yeah, I've heard good things about the XTC... plus of course, I'll probably mod any modules I don't like. One interesting thing I found out is that Randall makes a 15 watt head that takes one module. VERY cool!

A friend brought one over for the afternoon. He had the Blackface and the Recto modules. The Recto had the capacitor mod. I thought it was a good sounding amp. I also thought that for dirty tones, my Witchdoctor had it all over the Recto module. I would like to hear the other ones though..I hear that 1086 module is a monster.

It is a nice amp though. Seems solid and is a cool concept....without the Eganater price tag.

The 1086 is a monster gain module. It was a little much for my taste, and seemed to remain somewhat scooped no matter what I did with the eq.

Plus, the Egnator modules are 100% compatible with the Randall heads.

The cool thing about those amps is that they can run direct into a PA system. So I've heard of people taking the 15w combo to a gig and running it through the system with no problems. Only thing about that is switching modules for a different tone takes longer than a footswitch does.

Interesting. I've been in touch with Bruce Egnater, looks like one way or the other I'm going to get ahold of schematics for the modules so I can see what's going on and mod them to my taste. I have a line on an XTC, going to compare it with the XTC schematic I have for grins.

I personally dig the 1086 and Ultra modules, but I haven't gotten my hands on the new Ultra XL or the Lynch ones yet. Good score dude, let us know how you like it. I love the head, but I'm grabbing the RM4 to go with a VHT 2.50.2 instead

Yeah, I'm still waiting, so we'll see. But it's not like someone is going to be crazy enough to try to build their own modules - it would be a bitch, with the way they would have to be engineered. Cheaper to buy modules and mod them.
