Zeegs the only Peavy that will even keep up an Ampeg SVT is the "Max"..but those came out in '83/'84..
I'd go Carvin all the way..they eat Ampegs all day long..and they are much much cheaper..!!!!!

      I hadplenty of both..I KNOW!!

I been playing bass longer than most of you been alive.

I use an Alembic F1-X preamp, dbx compressor in the loop, and a Stewart 1.6 power amp, into a 210 cabinet. I've also got a GrooveTubes/Swr tube preamp, and an Ampeg svp-pro preamp, but I prefer the pure tones of the Alembic . I have an Eden 410xlt and a Mesa Powerhouse 410, but they don't seem necessary as our PA has subs, and the 2-10s work fine for my monitor.
The Alembic preamps sound fantastic and can be found easily for under $400, they don't sound super scooped, they're a more traditional bass tone. I recommend using a preamp with crossover-outputs, then get a powered sub (like a Mackie) for the low end, and stack a 210 on top of it. If we didn't have good subs, I'd get a powered sub for my low end.
If you've got a good PA with good monitors, you can really just get a good preamp/di, and don't worry about an amp.
I've heard that the Avalon U5 preamp/di is just amazing, I might have to get one of those.
