some amps have seperate direct outs, others have headphone outputs that double as a direct out. others have only a headphone output with no reference to outputting to a line input device whatsoever. i want an amp for my bedsit, but don't want to blow the output stage, nor do i want to mute the amp whilst recording to my multitrack. i'm trying to use a guitar amp as a reference so my guitar doesn't end up sounding shit when it gets to the multitrack.
so, which amp should i be looking at? hmm... well all the line6 amps sound too harsh and the eq is practically incoherent. i like the crate amps i've seen, but they have no direct output stages. or, should i just be looking at buying a pair of powered speakers for the multitrack/mixer? i live in a small bedsit.
