  • Done with Line6 for awhile

... bought a Boss GT8, the effects are better imho than the Line6 Stuff, at least with the RandallRM100. Holy cow, this thing has the kitchen sink - 2 amps at once like the Vetta, intelligent harmonizer, all sorts of stuff!

Only downside? It doesn't have as many footswitches (gives you knobs for tweaking the tone instantly instead) - so I'll probably get a small midi controller for channel switching and set the GT8 up for turning fx off/on individually. I haven't had this as long as the Pod XT of course (I've had some sort of XT since they came out back in October of jeez, can't remember the year... but I had the first one riksmusic.com got in stock, and they had them before GC)

One other thing this box has that Line6 should have is a friggin FX loop - you can run 4 cords to your amp and use your amps' preamp or the GT8 one, which makes it much more flexible. The acoustic simulator isn't bad either.

Pete, you'll have a blast with that thing. It is so tweakable, and, in the right hands, it can sound extremely good. The level meters are huge in getting that thing to sound right.

I ditched my PODxt a coupla months ago and haven't looked back. The only processor I am using is a Yamaha Magicstomp.....for effects only. Great little box.

Fritz- What kind of amp are you using it with?

Pete- I hear ya. I am going to be picking up the RM100 head in the next few weeks and I would definately go with the Boss GT stuff for sx rather than the XT.

I was comparing to the Pod XT. I know the vetta has a loop. I was comparing fx only foot controllers. I had a Vetta back when the software was version 1 and gigged about 60 times with it over 2 years... great amp.

I used a yamaha DG-Stomp for awhile... I think if Yamaha really threw some engineers at it, they could own the modelling market.

Thor-I am using the Magicstomp with a Valvetech VAC 25.

The loop on the VAC is line level only and this is the first pedal/processor that has meshed with it. The FX sound really good. The distortions & speaker simulations do not sound good thru an amp. I haven't tried it direct, though. I just bought it for the FX.

I had a Magicstomp for a while, and loved the sounds out of it. Problem was, the buttons went screwy shortly after getting it, and it was real hard getting the levels right, using some of the effects. I found out it they were common problems with the units, so I took it back. Hope the Magicstomp 2 has fixed those issues.

I have been raving about this processor for a long time and people thought I was kidding. The GT8 hands down is the best floor processor out there. Everything is right out front and labeled. I just get no respect.-Lou

I know, I have the GT8 as well! I don't use it as much as I should, but I'm going to start diving into it more. There's just so much great stuff in there.

I always said the Boss GT stuff was great. I used GT-6's live for years.
The GT-8 is an incredible unit.

BTW, nothing at all wrong with the Line6 stuff either - my main reason for the GT-8 is that it takes the place of some Boss pedals,. For the life of me, I can't figure out why the hell Line6 doesn't put a friggin' intelligent harmonizer in their products!

Maybe in the next Line6 update!!

Good to hear you like the GT8 Pete. I'm not an effects junkie and just having something to use is enough for me and the XT Live has great amps in it. Mabye in another XT update they'll give us more of the Vetta's powers, that would be something.

They certainly did a good job on the last update - the wahs were a great place to improve. They still haven't done an intelligent pitch shifter, but hey, I hope they do. After I sold my Vetta they came out with a great update, hopefully my XTL sale will make them upgrade it soon.

One thing that Boss totally sucks at is software and updates... I'll be surprised if Boss ever releases any real upgrades for the GT-8 like Line6 does for nearly all of their products. And the Line6 software is excellent - boss has nothing like that from Boss itself. A guy made his own GT-8 editor, and it's ok, but nowhere near as nice as the Line6 stuff.
