When I used to use my TLS100 for practice in the lounge room it was able to easily raise the temperature in summer, so yeah, all those tubes, things get warm.

I never had any issues with heat being a problem for the amp but a few years ago my tech did install a PC fan in the chassis, just to spread some air over the tubes. It made him feel better.

My TSL100 is a great amp, but I don't really use it anymore as I got a XT Live to use with the band.

          Going For It!!

I appreciate the info guys!! I am going for it If I don`t like the tone, I will put it on here for you guys I will let you know when it gets here, the guy can`t ship it until next Tuesday or Wensday, that is his days off of work, so about a week and a half, it is coming form California I noticed some of these amps only had a 8 or 16 Ohms switch setting, he said his has 4-8-16 settings, they must have changed them somewhere down the road, this one is a 2002 bought in 2003. Jack.

Mine is a 99 model I bought new, it has the 3-8-16 setting, very versatile. Enjoy, mine has EH preamp tubes and EH power tubes too. I once re-tubed it with all Mesa branded tubes, including their extra gain preamp tubes (SPA36?) but it was not the best so they all went in favour of EH. EH or original Svets are good power tubes for these.

The DSL100 that we have gets hot as hell too. So do most of the other amps we have. The DSL hasn't given us a stitch of trouble at all and it has been gigged and recorded for many many hours.

I figure that big touring musicians, who I've seen put their heads in cramped racks with no airflow for the top vents, must have some kind of active cooling system to keep them from melting. I've seen them in the back of guitar magazines, where they show you someones rig, and they've got two Marshalls in there.

I will try different tubes to be sure, and maybe have it biased, unless it comes sounding great, I won`t touch a thing Jack.

Bias is a must when changing power tubes, but yeah, see how she sounds when you get her.

Do you know what other amp smokes..literally..I mean it goes up in flames..

I had two Ampeg Lee Jackson VL 100s..one with 6550's..one with EL34's..

I was playing them for about an hour..and the EL34 one just burst into flames..I had to pour water on it..I ddn't know what else to do..the weird thing is it still worked after that..I just never played it again, I was afraid to..the tolex that was tucked inside was all melted.. some of the plastic vent melted.. and my bedroom smelled pretty cool for about a year..burnt electronics..I like that smell..

I cleaned it up real good sprayed all kinds of shit to cover the smell and traded it off..fuggit!

Just my two cents: I've got Mark IV, VHT 50CL, TSL122 and Decatone. The TSL is my second favorite after the Decatone. And I would not say that it can't stand its own even against the Soldano. So... as you see, it is all a matter of taste. Mark IV sees less and less action these days. Oh, yes - and it does have this pronounces 'Marshall' sound, like it or not.

Guys, apparently the TSL/DSL's are biased too hot from the factory. The guys over at the Marshall forum recommend biasing them a little cooler which really helps the tone and reliability.

See, I would pick the VHT from that stable..then the Soldano, then third The MRK IV ..I guess it does come down to personal taste.
