True Bill. I had a fire breathing VHT Pittbull CLX 2x12 at one time, yes it was aggressive and yes it was loud, but it was so dry and tight. Yes, I like that tone, but you couldn`t loosen it up at all or make it more liquid. I wanted to love that amp and it had no crunch at all. I will give the Marshall a chance for sure Jack.

Amp also can run 6L6, KT88, EL34, etc... has individual bias controls for EACH power tube, so you can run a pair of 6L6 and a pair of EL34s... also can run tubes that aren't matched and 'match' them with the bias settings.
Is midi controllable for changing channels, has a tube buffered fx loop (2: one parallel, one series)
It's kinda like a tube modelling amp.

VHT is a great amp. For months I live of off it barily using anything else. Then comes a different phase - Soldano or TSL. Soldano has more singing, vocal quality to it. Marshall is just overall very organic. It makes you want to play. Not the least because you get this classic JCM sound, then a good lead tone.

"I like that tone as long as the distiortion is good enough."
Yes, it is essencial to have the TSL volume pas 5, between 5-7. Some like it hotter Which is good, but the the balance of distortion then moves more into the power tube range and the amp responds differently. My personal fave - 5-7 with HotPlate dialed at 4db. Manageble volume, full-bodied sound and good response combination of both preamp and power-amp starting to midly clip.

Update, I am not getting the amp now. The guy said before he shipped it, he checked the bias and couldn`t set them properly and checked and the heat has caused problems with some solder joints and he wouldn`t feel right selling me the amp with issues. I am leaning towards a Marshall 2210. Any thoughts on that one? Jack.

No rack stuff for me bros I am between the 2210(would like to have the reverb) and a 6100LM(these get great reviews)(no reverb). Do the 6100`s have pcb mounted tubes or like the 2210`s? The 6100LM I am looking at has 40 hours on it and has the cover-switch and the original box Jack.
