Hmmm... I don't really get it. To me, it's just a gate, I suppose that's the point, but you're basically just putting a volume pot in your effects loop. It's not like a powerbrake or something that acts as a load. Seems like this would just complicate things, because now you have to deal with another volume control, plus possibly the in/out levels of your effects loop.
it won't work as an attenuator as he claims it will. It will just work as a master volume (which could be useful if your amp has a loop but no master volume; or has a touchy master (goes from off to really loud too quickly), or something like that). It will get you preamp overdrive, but not poweramp overdrive (which arguably is a big part of that opened-up-tube-amp-tone he talks about in that auction).
summary: it's just a volume pot, two jacks, and some wire in a little box, and with that going at $20, you could make your own much cheaper.
