Since we're talking 5150 I gotta say, before you sell it short, spend the little money and get the integrated quad 2 KT88's, 2 6L6's & 5 high gain ECC83S's with one balanced for V5. The sound difference is unbelievable. And, the clean tones are pretty damn good too. Food for thought........
Transitioning from Retired Musician from cover bands to a Full time vocalist/frontman/guitarist in an original and covers band....it's been a while and this should get NASTY!

Wwo.. i knew the Cobra was expensive but I had no idea it as $4000.00!!!
No wonder I never saw any band locally ever use one.

They're that expensive over there? Serves you right!

It's like the reverse world with Mesa's, they cost a limb or your firstborn over here, but Cobra's are like 1700 euros here ($2500).

That said, interesting a/b comparison there, first 5150/cobra test I've seen, that's for sure! Always thought highly of the cobra, nice to see it confirmed! Can't wait to play one of these.
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

Depends on the kind of head you're getting.

Isn't this an apples to oranges thing..

It like comparing a Ford Focus to a Corvette..I dunno..

they'll both get you where you wanna go..but which one would you rather drive and afford.

              Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!

To an extent . I've personally played the Cobra and 5150 side by side, and have stuck with my 5150.

then thing is, the cobra requires a LOT of tweaking time.....in fact, i wonder how this amp sounds with some decent tubes (although i usually love EH=stock tubes in the preamp....) and a proper=warmer bias setting...maybe the regular non notched setting is less harsh and cold this way.....but as it is, the notched setting with the mids high is definitely the way to go....
