OK guys, I didn`t know that about the 2203, I am very Marshall illiterate The only one I know about is the TSL series. I like those, but they are poorly made, too many problems. I am tryiong to get that tone with the better 2203/4. If/when I get one, I will try different pedals to see what sounds the best on the front Jack.

I like the way the TS' humps the mids, but I usually just used it for solos and used the amp 'as is' for rhythms. My favorite Marshall for this was a '77 JMP1 50 watt. I miss that amp!

I personally hate the metal zone stock, but the keely modded one is much better. I still would not use it with a Marshall unless it was on a older clean sounding JMP with some headroom but that is just me. Pete's advice of running a metal into an old stock Marshall is right on. Those amps are best boosted by some other pedal. The metal zone would be better on a clean tube amp.. like a AIM, Hiwatt, Sound City.. even a Laney AOR or a Mesa on a clean setting or similar older clean style amp (Sunn, Ampeg, etc.)

A 3203 or 4203 Marshall has an effects loop and very good distortion/gain as well as reverb, it might be worth checking out as well. There's quite a few reviews here about it.
