  • Building a cabinet

I'm going to buy 4 celetion vintage 30's and build my own cabinet. But I wonder that what'll be the difference with the cabinet that I'm gonna build and a production cabinet that has four v30's.What are the parameters that effect the sound? And where can i find good information about building them.

You don't tell us anything about the cabinet you're gonna build....

If you make a 100% copy using the same wood, size and circuitry, nothing will sound different. Surprise eh?! Sorry, but that's a legit answer to your somewhat simple question.

Cabinet size will have a big influence on how the low frequencies will sound.

An open back is relatively simple to build.

If you're going to go with a closed back you've gotta take Q, acoustic resonance and all of that into account, which makes it a bit harder.
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

Hmm i don't know, if you calculate the price of 4 celestions, all the wood, the tolex, the grill, casters and what not you might just go ahead and buy a used cabinet. After all it seems like you don't know much about building cabinets so it's possible your cab will sound bad.
I am kinda in the same boat. I am planing on building a 15watt tube amp for bedroom practice and i thought about diy'ing a 1x12' cab. But after calculating all the costs it will run me the same as the used 1x12 Mesa recto cab i bought on ebay and this cab sounds good no matter what. Which i can't say about the cab i would be building.

Sorry to sound discouraging but you really should think about if it makes sense.

Well, cabinets are a lot more expensive in Turkey than it is in the USA.And even I buy it from ebay, the shipping will cost me 350-400 dollars. So,the cheapest alternative is to build one myself.

Here is a resource I found on the web for what you are trying to do. I think its a great idea and hope it turns out well. Post pics of your progress and the finished project!

Well i am not in america. Here in germany of course Mesa is not cheap but i was able to get the 1x12 for 260 Euros. The Celestion alone is 120 Euro, if i buy a prebuild cab it at least costs 150 Euro. So that's already more than the Mesa cab. Plus what Chad said if you blow 600-700 Euros into a selfbuild 4x12 cab you won't get much out of it if you decide to sell.

Seems like turkey hasn't a local version of ebay ? I guess there are local music stores selling used equipment. I bought my Marshall 4x12 cab locally years ago for a price i never could build something myself.

No we don't have ebay.com.tr.And even if we did,the prices would still be up

I'm going to buy the celestions from usa.My sister will bring them.So I will pay the usa price for the speakers, which is great
