  • It's so happy to see its cousin!

My quad was delighted when it met its new buddy.

Bought new in '99 by the guy I got it from : '99 50/50 absolutely mint (less than 10 hours playtime and sitting in the closet ever since). He threw in a free rackbox, gonna sell that to get some more $, though, it's not the greatest in quality anyways.

So that makes a minty Mesa Quad and an even mintier Mesa 50/50. I'm in my own little tone heaven here!

Mk IIC + Mk III + 50/50 (stock Deep modded) =

You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

Did some research and got some help, turns out this is a rare little Quad preamp, it's got the Midi onboard system (mid you, still a pretty outdated midi interface) but Quads with the midi on board are rare to very rare.

Downside is I'm missing the smaller of the two reverb tanks because of the MIDI PCB and whatnot. The quad normally has the lushest, thickest and best tube reverb ever created, because of the two tanks.

I'll have to buy me another Quad, which is non-Midi. Was planning on doing so anyways!

Nice getup. Oh, yeah, I see the MIDI port. IMHO, you are better off with a reverb unit than a reverb tank. I HATE onboard reverb tanks. To make things worse, you bump the amp, and it sounds like friggin Godzilla is stomping through Tokyo!! That's ONE way to wake up the audience!

Yeah, I'm usually not too snappy about onboard tank reverb either, but from what I've read and HEARD the quad really has the richest reverb I've ever heard. I preferred digital reverb on an Mk III greenstripe, but I actually prefer the twotanker reverb of the quad over most or any reverb there is. (I'm a sucker for Reverb btw, I'm very Lynch that way )

Very nice setup. There's a guy here who's been trying to sell a quad for ages.

How it's compared to MK III blue or red stripe?

I'll start jamming again so I'm getting a Mk III and M/B 4x12 cab w/V30's very soon but I'm interested in other cool things too.

Channel 2 has the black-dotted (no stripe) MK III as its base. However, they tweaked with it and the Lead 2 on Channel 2 of the Quad has the most gain of ANY mark series amps (!), so it's like a hotrodded Mk III, of sorts.

Sounds good Peter, we should hook up sometime, let me get my shit in order and we'll jam some time!

                      Gratuitous Porn Shots

Opened her up tonight and took some shots. They didn't come out too well, with the ISO dimed and me behind the camera....

Made TWO interesting discoveries. It appears the large reverb tank is fitted on the topshell (which lifts off), so I was lucky I was careful or I'd had yanked the thing out of its sockets.

                      Discovery #1
: It's NOT a MIDI quad, much to my delight. That means I actually do have both reverbtanks and thus this is one of the normal quads with the much fabled tube reverb.

Discovery #2: Turns out there's actually three markings on the smaller reverbtank

MB 3/9/92 [I'm guessing it's Mike Bendinelli, from the looks of it]
                      Wa (sic) 3/23/92
                      HAM 3/30/92

                      ---------

                      ---------

Will open up the 50/50 next, as I'd like to get to the bottom of the Deep mod and how it varies from being 'Stock' as opposed to being an actual mod (choke filter held in place by screws through the outer grating).
