That's great for your dad. He truly is the exception from what I've seen and I've been around smokers all my life and I smoked myself for about 14-15 years.

Tim, and dudes just quit man..I smoked two packs of Winston/Marlboro for over 20 years..I quit just after Vinny was born in '95..they just went to two bucks a pack..they're double that now..or more..

It was very hard..the first few days is a bitch..I ate like a pig and cranky as hell..but I got over that hump and it got easier from there until I didn't miss it anymore..

For about the first two weeks I smoked those cheap and stinky middleton(sp) cherry or black N' mild cigars ..just to keep the monkey off my back..those got old quick and was a sinch to kick 'em..

I never knew how much cig smoke stunk..until I stopped..

Whenever I go to a show..I immediately shower and throw my clothes in the wash..it just stinks..you can't smell that when you smoke..I didn't

Now I can see why people bitch about it..I thought they were petty asses when I puffed around them..they really wern't..it just stinks!

also..you won't believe how much pocket money you'll have..it'll help out with filling your tank anywhoo..

Good luck..kick that shit..yeah I know how hard it is..and once you quit, don't sneak a puff a week or two later (especially after sex, a meal or drinking) because then you suffered all that time for nothing because you'll be hooked again instantly..and you're back at square one.

Some people will find this as a golden opportunity to put down and kick while he is down somebody they never liked. That is fine, if you don't like EVH take your shots.

Some other people, myself included in this group, will get upset at him for the shit pile he is let himself become. Putting aside the fact that he's let vices run his life for him is bad enough. It has been proven here that you CAN kick these things off, if you don't WAT to then don't fuck it.

I resent him greatly because he was given a gift. A gift that some of us will give a nut for 1% of whatever he got. Yet, he let's it go to waste by being a flat out asshole to his bandmates, except Alex, and by being a drunk.
Some being greater than us placed an unimaginable talent among us and that talent let the second half of his life lay to waste.
Don't even begin to tell me that the Gary Cherone or last Sammy stuff was "good" because it wasn't!!!! how about the porno shit....

They are living off residual album sales and the pedals and sig guitars he is peddling. I resent him because I would selfishly expect a kick ass VH album at least once every two years and I am not getting it. Yet, way less talented bands are still kicking from the same era, insert Kiss, JP, etc.

My 2 cents,

Regardless of what he did in the past, he appears to need some kind of major kick in the ass because he does not seem healthy and he is not contributing to the potential he still could if he were healthy. Other rock acts find ways to be successful and popular when the times change. He could too if wanted to get his act together. Someone who is truly exceptional wouldn't rely on past success to rationalize less than exceptional performance today. They would say I have to do better because I know I can even if I don't have to.

nah dude, i know what they look like. i lived in downtown SF for 10 years...for a few months next to a crack house. did you see my disclaimer "who the fuck knows?" i was just presenting hypothetical counterarguments to yours and everyone else's apparent god-like omniscience about what "ails" ed.

i can look at the same picture as you and interpret it differently. if he was in such sad shape, why does he have a nice lookin *successful* chick by his side and some celebs hanging around him. maybe i'm naive, but i don't think the beverly hills elite would waste their time hanging around a bona-fide crack/meth addict regardless of what your past glories were. you look at the same picture and you see what you see, but the fact is that you don't know shit. you're just slinging interpretations about what you see in a photograph and supporting it with rumors.
