No offense to those mentioned but I haven't heard a single thing by any of those guys that sounds better than the clips I heard of the last VH tour. Of course I haven't heard all of those guys play but until I do I stand by what I said.

All you guys can diss Eddie for whatever reasons but none of you has written a single kick ass song that I have heard of, none of you has turned the guitar world on it's head with a truly innovative and unique style, most of you probably look worse (or will when you hit 50+), and most of you can't even begin to touch him as a player (yes, even now).

Well, I am curious to hear how this amp sounds. I would love to see Ed's new amp be more of a return to his glory days tone. I always found it ironic that a guy who had the warmest, fattest sound in rock and roll designed an amp that is favored by guys that scream about decapitating babies and fucking the remains.

What a coincidence. I just mentioned in the past couple weeks how Eddie and Phil Collen can still play with shirts off. I think it's their metabolisms (drug induced?) and diet. They're lean but I doubt they're strong. I'll bet neither can bench their own weight. Regardless of their fashion statements, their guts look better than mine.

It's funny what a smart guy you are, yet you have such selective perception. The guys who have "dissed" Ed here have said all the things you just said - except for the irrational part about not being able to touch Ed as a player.

To even be considered a decent metal guitarist by 1986 or so, you had to have the VH repertoire down and be beyond it to playing some Yngwie stuff and a lot of the other Shrapnel guys, all of whom could dust EVH by then.

Dudes , I love and worship Ed's writing, tone, playing, and innovations..I was 13 in '78..I listened to him every singleday all day..all night..always trying to get his tone..learn his shit..doing a tribute band..dressing like those dicks..

My life is a VH calendar..I remeber each year their albums came out ..who I was with, what I was doing, where I was working..everything..that's pretty twisted!

It's the ONE AND ONLY thing todays players are better than Ed is these days, technique.

Exactly. What people tend to overlook is that Eddie is first and foremost a supremely gifted rhythm player. He can groove just as well, if not better, than he can rip off a solo. Solos don't make a song, the groove does. Plus, Ed wrote those songs, songs that are soundtracks to many of our lives...he wrote them all. I still think to this day not a single rock guitar player has eclipsed Eddie's tone from the first records. That is the gold standard for rock guitar. And yeah, how many people have written album after album full of HITS?

I will freely admit that Eddie is at a low point in a stellar career. He is a convenient target because everyone likes to take shots at the king when he is down. Guys that grew up worshipping Ed and dreaming of playing like him can now churn out his tunes in their sleep and this has emboldened them in terms of their critical approach to him. "Aw, shit...Eddie blows..I can play Eruption with the guitar laying on my lap...that isn't SHIT...let's see Eddie sweep some arpeggios!" Well, to that I answer, let's see one of your "arpeggiators" write a radio friendly song that still holds water with true rock fans, not just those who dig technically advanced guitar oriented music. How many chicks do you think you see at a Nevermore concert? How many look like they DON'T have a cock? Ed appealed to everyone.

I realize that it is hard for many to see Eddie as a real human, with faults and foibles..that hurts when he is or was a hero..and some lash out against him because of it. But, in the end he is just a regular old dude from California who happened to light the world on fire. The sooner people see that, the sooner they can forgive him for falling short of their expectations.

Eddie is still riding the wave of his previous success. I seriously doubt he will ever do anything good again. He doesn't have the motivation. Whether it's drugs, alcohol, or whatever the reason is, I won't judge him for it, but I certainly won't defend him either. Who knows, maybe we'd all be just as bad, or worse in his position. You never know until you're there. I will agree though, he looks like shit, and really should clean himself up a little.

I like what Mike said. He's just a rock n roll guy who influenced a genre and generation. O.J. Simpson did too and he's far from prefect as well. Hell, even Michael Jordan was hissed at for OMG...gambling. With his own money! Of course Pete Rose gambled on his own team. Anyways... too many times we hold unrealistic expectations higher for these celebs and our heroes. I'm not so disappointed in what Eddie's doing or not doing. It's his life. Regardless of what the furture holds, I'll always remember him for what he did.
