I'm a guitar player. a fan. a potential customer for his endorsed gear. I'm as able and free to "judge" Eddie's self-abuse as any concerned fan, and there appear to be a lot of concerned fans here.

i don't disagree. as with any debates on these boards, i don't agree with your opinion in this case and explaining why. my opinion is that it's presumptuous to judge eddie based on a few pics, rumors, and failure to live up to your expectations.

It's like Bill said, picture your friend/brother/cousin going downhill when he seems to have everything going for him. Wouldn't it piss you off? Wouldn't you say something?

If you were perfectly happy living your life (music, missionary work, military, smoking weed in retirement) and your friend/brother/cousin expressed their opinion that you were flushing your life down the toilet, wouldn't it piss you off? Wouldn't you say something?

We may just be fans but we have the right to be upset at the guy flushing himself down a toilet, and to express that sentiment. You certainly have a right to express yourself too though.

To judge implies being presented with actual evidence and facts and making an impartial judgement against an objective set of criteria. and i see neither. so i think the quotes around the "judge" are appropriate. to me it resembles gossiping a lot more.

Well we can all talk the shit thats being spued here by many on both sides. But the fact of the matter is none of us are in constant contact with Eddie we dont know what his life is about now. If anything it should be about raising Wolfgang. Yeah remember him? Eddies son? Everybopdy is too busy bashin eddie or bashin the eddie bashers that they arent seein the real picture. Walk a mile in Eddies toeless shoes then maybe thngs will be a bit more clear for those in turmoil with Eddies condition. Lets take a look at things from Eddies perspective. His wife left him after one of the longest marraiges in celebritydom. Wolfgang is surpassing eddie and Alex on their respective instruments and will one day replace one of them as the new ICON of the Van Halen world of rock. He isnt gettin the respect he once was and for quite a long ass time too. Mike has left off on a road trip with Sammy.
His brother is some what supportive but has issues his own with his back injuries from that car accident years ago. Back injuries never really heal 100% and can be re-injured with the wrong movement at any time. Yeah ok so Valerie left him because of his drinking and other habbits but he did quite for a time afterwards. He then starts to ponder his life as men do at the age of what do i do now and starts to feel depressed. So he starts to drink again. Shoes without toes in them would be cool on somebody else that was having a good year for album sales but for you hipocrots its a bad sign that Eddie has had his day and doesnt care anymore. Well maybe he doesnt because of the fans like those who keep dissing him. Regardless if Eddie or anybody in his camp reads this or any other forum and posts about him word gets around. He probably knows he's loosing favor with some of his life long fans and hes gettin farther depressed. He then thinks to himself. ahh fuck it Wolfie can take over I'm done. But he has this voice in his head tellin him that he's not happy unless he's playin so he does these porno movie songs and gets ripped on for that. He then sinks farther into depression cus his fans arent supporting him anymore. Thats enough to make anybody relaps into alcoholism and drugs or whatever his vices are. And i didnt even mention the cancer that could have come back but hes not tellin anybody about it. You guys that are just leaving him for dead that used to be fans are part of the problem. Musicains who live to play and live for the music regardless of monetary stature rely on the fans. If the fans leave so does their own hope for anything more. No this is purely hypothetical but how do we know it isn't what's goin on with him. Sure we see whats happenoing at these lil-ol-gigs-of -something-to-do-to-keep-me-busy. But whats really goin on with Eddie as a father a brother and a human being? Has anybody bothered to look past the superficail skin and see the man the fellow human being? NO!! So stop the bitching and get human for a fucking change and realize Eddie is a human that has flesh and blood and emotion and everyhting else that we all have and hurt from and stop just for a minute and forget he is "Eddie Van Halen the greatest guitarplayer that ever lived".
