Shit happens, Endrik, and people do drugs. Almost EVERYBODY who were musicians or into rock and metal did drugs in the 70s and 80s. Some quit, some kept on. It amazes me that people are surprised or upset when it's talked about.

You know I'm involved with musicians circle, a lot of guys do drugs and whatnot but some things are just gossip.

I have done my fair share of drugs. I just don't see WHY Eddie would start playing with smack at such an "advanced" age. However, I don't discount the possibility.

I just don't understand what would drive a 50 year old man to start using Heroin. I mean, fuck, that is something you start doing when you are young and stupid..not advanced in your years and supposedly "wise". If this is, in fact, true...then Ed could indeed be finished, because Heroin is the dark mistress, and she doesn't let go easily.

Maybe his hot new girlfriend likes the smack... maybe he's just ramping up the death wish, who knows? Could be his midlife crisis, wanting to doi the drug the kids are doing. After all he wanted to jam with Nirvana back in the early 90s, he may want to keep hanging with the kids.

Endrik, your scenario is one thing, but John says he knows Ed's neighbor, who says he knows it for fact. I don't see John mentioning it if he had a doubt about his friend who is Ed's neighbor. That's pretty direct line, not as nebulous as you'd have it.

I think it's all the loss he's had..he's not the "king" anymore..not according to any guitar rags or polls for quite some time..he got cancer..lost half his tongue..his health with a hip replacement..he lost his band...lost his youth..lost his kid..lost his wife and who knows what else ..he became a total recluse..

I emailed the VH camp several times on my sis's PC..before I had a computer..back in '99/'00 or so..I kept dropping the name Jorne Lande..even back then he had several projects worth a listen..I was hoping to start some sort of a buzz in their camp..I guess not.

Eddie Van Halen is ,in all likelyhood, the reason Charvel guitars are selling so many guitars today. I wonder what would have become of Charvel, or Floyd Rose for that matter, if Eddie hadn't started using their (in lack of a better word) products. How many great guitars we wouldn't have seen and played.
Would the "super-Strat" have been here if it hadn't been for him?

And what about the myriads of players who practised, and practise today, hours and hours, in order to do what their hero did. Sure, it's easy enough to copy something, and Eddie didn't invent tapping, but it's how you incorporate it into your playing and turn it into something of your own that's the difficult part.
Listening to the old Van Halen albums, especially the first one way back when in '78 still sends shivers down my spine. Eddie captured so well on the guitar the restlessness and wildness lurking in every young kid. And yet he seemed so shy himself, even playing some early concerts with his back turned on the audience at times.

I'm just writing down whatever pops out of my head, it's 3 in the morning here now. Sorry if it's not very "concistent" or whatnot.

Anyways, I doubt you're reading this, but you just never know, do you..
Thanks Ed, for the inspiration and those great guitars. The world just wouldn't be the same without you, and that's a fact however you may choose to look at it
