best amp for iced earth sounds?

particulary the something wicked this way comes sound....that one just got me hooked
i know that schaffer used his gibson guitars through the larry dino something, but i wonder if there's anything below 5k () that can also get in the ballpark?

i know that the engl blackmore nailed the alive in athens tone (at low volumes, though...), but then again, to my ears the AIA tone is quite different from SWTWC...much more sizzle.

any ideas?

Uberschall for dirty and clean..what Schaffer uses and always will according to him..

I briefly talked to him on the last tour wih Tim Owens..

He used to play a Larry head with a BBE 422 in the loop..and a A/B switch to a Roland jazz chorus for cleans..

I asked him what do you think of the Uber compared to the Larry..he quickly stated.."No comparison"..

That's it!

I guess you can "get by" with a Vetta in uber mode...they suppose to sound pretty close..so I read many times here..

horror show was larry for the rhythm tones and a soldano slo for leads and melodies. and btw, it was larry tarnowski (sp?) on lead guitars for horror show....actually he wrote like 50% of im-ho-tep.
great album btw!

as for the uberschall....well, he's back to larry the glorious burden was uber and marshall dsl (that's also what he used on the tour), but since then he has ordered 2 new larry's and already has one IIRC.
well...i'd love to try a larry (after all larry grohmann lives like 60 miles away from here), but i'd hate the idea of falling in love with a 5k amp

One of my favorite rhythm sounds was always from Travel In Stygian, riffing and tone madness!

I've been trying to get that one, once I feel I've come as close as I can and I can actually record it decently, I'll post it.

I seen 'em everytime they came thru here..I never saw a DSL..or could I even imagine that.

Jon seemed to be Uber happy with his Uber the night I saw him and he never sounded better..in our opinion.

He also doesn't need a BBE 422 in the loop..like he did with the Larry..

The Uber hates the BBE..I know, I tried!!!

That's weird..I didn't see that.

Besides both channels on the Bogner absolutely annihilate a DSL..especially for his HEAVY tone.

I bought a brand new DSL just before I bought my Uber..sorry but that's comparing a chevette to a corvette!!

I HAD to sell the 100 wt DSL no matter what ..because it wasn't even close to keeping up Cleveland John's CAE3+/VHT2150, nowhere near close..the Uber hung with it no prob..
