I've got one just like yours. Pre-effects loop. It's a new old stock one. Yes, it's stadium loud. I never use the thing. I'm going to be sending it to Scott Splawn pretty soon for mods. I don't have a hot plate, so Scott's mods will bring the volume to within reason. Congrats!

Is your hearing still intact, Ehh?
Tone is like Art: Your opinion is valid. Listen, learn, have fun, draw your own conclusions.

I can't hear you. :ROTF: If I want to play this amp at home I have to accept the fact that it will be a clean tone. This amp starts getting thick distortion when the cops come. Yea.. its stadium loud.
Fantastic tone. I am going hotplate and distortion pedal if I need it. I could not be happier with the tone and now the cabinet is all structurally repaired. Its even labeled inside "Cabinet by Scott". I love stuff like that.

I bought the Homebrew Big D. Its very natural sounding and nicely made. I'll review it when it arrives.

I figured I would throw a pedal in front of it so I can tone it down to a useable volume at home. With both Loudness 1 and Loudness 2 on 0 the amp is still pretty loud. I figured if I put a pedal in front of it I could turn the volumes on the amp up to around 3 and adjust the master volume from the distortion pedal. Nope.
If you put this amp on 3 all you have to do is crack the level control on the pedal to around 0.3 and its LOUD. Club loud.
What a monster and this little plexi is only 50w!!!

                  Follow up review

I'll tell you what fellow JCFr's. There is nothing.. and I mean nothing that compares to a Plexi cranked up in all its glory.
I just had my 1987x Reissue turned up to 7 pumping through a Mesa Boogie 3/4 back 1 x 12 90w Black Shadow.
No pedals, no attenuators, no nothing. Just guitar, cord, amp.
It was loud. Not insane because of the 1 speaker. I can still hear.
The tone and gain coming out of this amp is tone nirvana. Old school metal type gain. Priest, Rush, Sabbath, Scorpions type gain and tone.
Roll the guitar volume down to around 3 and she cleans up beautiful. Really nice thick juicy clean. Turn the guitar volume up to around 7 and you have dead on AC/DC type tone and gain. Turn the guitar up to 10 and you are old school metal.
This is the first time I was able to really get on it with no frills.
Now I know what everybody means.
I am writing this review because I think that alot of us never get the chance to actually hear one of these in person or play through one.
Do yourself a favor. If you EVER get the chance.. take it. Its almost like a religious experience. I had to stop several times and say holy crap to myself. I wish I had one of these when I was touring back in the 80's.

My buddy has one of these and he runs it's thru a Marshall cab with Greenbacks and a hotplate.
Get the hotplate, when he cranks his wide open , nothing else sounds quite like it. You'll love it
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

I have one. I bought a Weber Mini-Mass. It sounds fantastic with the attenuator and even at bedroom levels it sounds pretty good.
This was the first time I just let it rip "au-natural".

your best post ever. I have 4 cool tube heads and I have no children. I crank it whenever I want to. Its the best. Nothing is the same as natural sustain. Real gain not buzz bomb tone. Crank it up Bro.
