That all really sucks, John. I'm sorry all that happened, but I sure am glad that none of it is any worse. You really should go see your doctor and get looked at. I know you take good care of yourself, and feel mostly fine, but a checkup won't kill you.
I'm sure you'll get the claim all squared away. Will suck for sure until you do, but I bet it all works out.
Keep us posted,
Keith

I am sure its gonna take a while though which is no problem. I got plenty of time and plenty of other amps.

I had them just pay for a new cabinet, but it was rather funny...
I just wanted them to replace the headshell, as the amp was fine. Mesa wanted 200 for a new one, which was fine by me. I told UPS the cost, and we went back and forth for a month because they couldn't accept a "word of mouth statement on the value," even if they called the company and the word of mouth was from fucking Mesa. (I now know that if you have Mesa fax you a quote on the price with their letterhead, you won't have a problem).
So when they wouldn't honor the repair claim, I switched the claim to the full insured amount of $900.
I got a call 2 days later telling me that they can honor the cost I gave them for the amp headcase alone, and got my check a week later. \m/

So of course UPS denied my damage claim. I didn't follow their packing guidelines according to them. There is no use fighting this uphill battle.
On top of that... they inspected the amp at the place I sent it to and decided to pick it up and send it back to me. It arrived at my place of business today followed by the call that they denied my claim. I argued that I didn't want it shipped back and that now I have to pay a shipping charge to send my REALLY broken amp back to where it came from.
Anyway.... I sent it back to Dave Sarge today. He is going to clamp and glue the cabinet back together, do the repair and the Hollywood Mod.
I can live with the cabinet tolex ripped where the crack is. I have no choice and I am not in the position to spend $300.00 for a new cabinet.
This has been all around bad.
On the + side..... I fixed my oven today. After researching it on the web I pinpointed the problem to the oven ignitor. $70.00 later its fixed.
Not bad I guess.

Sorry to hear. Been there... it sucks.
Did you ship it in the factory carton? Even if you use a box that is not doubled and is not 'new'.. they can deny your claim. It should be similar to how computer/electronic equipment is packed and their guidelines for those.
You can appeal and press this further..if you feel you packed it adequately and the damage is due to shipping mishandling.. I'd do it.. or you can let it go. But this is what is typically the game.. they deny the claim, and they save $. If you have legit reasons to argue this and can prove you case with a legal slant in an appeal.. you may sway it. If you call them up and bitch.. and have very solid ground to walk on.. they may give in.
UPS has lawsuits of uncountless thousands of dollars filed against them for not paying out claims, 'cause basically.. they are their own watchdog, and they cover their ass, not yours. I've lost hundreds of dollars on amp claims... they are by far the most intensive to pack and you have to do it right.
I send this little note out to every person I buy an amp from off eBay.
Kill 'em with kindness type of thing.
Hi, payment as per our conversation.
*PLEASE* - *READ THE FOLLOWING* ------
Amps typically do not fare well in shipping. I've had alot of problems in the past. If you do not mind,....
*PLEASE* observe a few suggestions.
*PLEASE* , if you insist on using peanuts, pack the amp in a bag!!!! (I spend hours disassembling and vacuuming chassis - huge waste of time when I want to PLAY. Very simple remedy, couple decent sized trash bags will do.. the amp won't be offended nor will I)
*PLEASE* pull the tubes. Wrap them individually in either small-fine bubble wrap or a good layer of fine membrane foam (like what they wrap new guitars in) Pack them in a box..secure-tape that box to the inside of the cabinet.
*Please* take a little extra precaution to the control surfaces by adding another layer of styro or a double layer of ADDITIONAL cardboard to shield them from damage. This would consist of the knobs and the sliders which are prone to being bent and destroyed.
*PLEASE* protect the grille cloth-speaker area with additional cardboard..takes but a couple minutes to double layer and tape an additional shield in place. Same goes for the back.
corners also have been known to split open.. amps get dropped !>alot<! when being shipped.. please use extra foam or cardboard on those as well.Last edited by charvelguy; 08-17-2006, 11:45 AM.

Dave emailed me today and told me the cabinet has been repaired. He said it came out nice because the split was at the joint. He also repaired the amp and is now in the process of doing the full Hollywood Mod. He should be shipping it back to me sometime this week!! Can't wait. Full review to come.
