Anyone besides myself grown tired of this CRAP yet??!!..
As you know..I had a few headbutts while sharing my personal discontent with certain amps..not anymore!!
Isn't the main purpose of any GREAT amp is to convey your very best playing to others..
I owned, played, heard many amps in the last 28 years or so..too many to remember.
It is known that I do not like Rectos and DSLs/TSLs..I bought them, and did everything in my power to make them work, I really wanted to like them..when you throw down good money for something you want to like it. I did everything with those amps..you name it, I tried it..before giving them the boot...especially the Recto. I try one on occassion and it immediately reminds me why I don't like it. So nothing much has changed since 1992 there.
Meanwhile, there is many players much better than myself playing those amps and kicking major ass, ine ever way possible!!!...Jeff Loomis, Reb Beach, Doug Aldrich, John Petrucci and so many more it'll make your head spin...who am I to say their gear blows..
I'm sure every good player here that loves good tone LOVES their rigs, and it is THE best, it prolly is..FOR YOU!
which brings me to another point.."sound clips"..sigh..
If you want to know what a amp REALLY sounds like you must stick your face in the speaker cab, while playing to know what ANY amp will truly sound like..PERIOD!!
You must remeber when listening to clips ..that is NOT you playing on them..
Clips are great to showcase YOUR tone and YOUR playing..and give others an "idea" what that amp MAY do for them. Don't ever think you going to buy a amp and sound exactly like that clip!
If we judge amps by their recordings alone..Pignose rule..Brian May wrote alot of his classics with one. Anyone that likes Nevermore knows what Andy Sneap can make a Krank sound like. If a Krank really sounded like that, I'd run out and buy two right now!!
I heard alot of "buzz" about the Uberscahall when I first came on board here almost 5 years ago. There wasn't a Uber to be found anywhere around here. So I listened to ex-JCFer Thingman's "clips" ..I like what I heard. So I hunted one down a 2.5 hours away and checked one out..Thingman
's clips did not sell me..but playing the Uber did. Although when I first got it, I compromised the tone I really liked due to that I was in a band with John..battle of the midrange..two guitarist bands know exactly what I mean.
It all depends on the player and whatever works for them. I seen a Judas Preist tribute over the weekend. Both players used 5150 full stacks..much to my dismay, what I heard was thin, fuzzy, incoherent noise. I had to waite for the vocal line to decipher what song it was. I never heard a 5150 sound so bad..two 5150s!
John opened for them with his rig, all alone, big difference. Full bodied , crisp and clear. John and I both had plenty of 5150s , they were cool..The Amotts used to smoke with them IMO!
There is many profesional players that we admire that play in bands we worship that use what most of us would consider garbage!
I had my balls battered and beaten for still loving my JMP-1. Ironically John was over playing it. It sounded so good when he played Savatage, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up as if the ghost of Criss Oliva was in the fuggin' room. 'Till this day, I NEVER heard John sound better. He liked it too, and couldn't put it down.
As far as I'm concern I have THE BEST rigs on Earth (for me), one for old school metal and one for modern, they both make me very happy and I'm not even interested investigating, I'm EXTREMELY content at this time. Unless I stumble upon a lonesone Avegenger/Engl/VHT/Framus and etc just sitting in a store beckoning for my attention.
What I'm saying here is this what works for you does not mean it must work for everyone. I don't care if you have a million dollar one-off boutique amp.. hand wired by Baby Jesus himself.
So with that said, any GREAT players here that TRULY love their rigs. Don't worry about what these chest pounding, pud pullers think..let then pound their puds 'till it falls off ..just keep shreddin' and kick their asses doing it. If they give you shit..tell 'em Bill Z Bub said they're an asshole!!..
One man's garbage is another man's treasure..
It's all what you do with it..
