I've had both versions, 6550 or 5881, and EL34's of almost all of them, and if it says Marshall on it I want EL34's or I'm converting it. Just a simple matter of taste preference. I do prefer 6550's over 5881's though.

Actually of all the tubes I've heard in poweramps..John's KT88s sound best to me too.

But I don't think the listener gives a shit..as long as you're ripping and kickin'..even if your TUBELESS!!

Do you think a listener or fan or whatever knows or cares that I just paid over 120 bucks for 6 preamps tubes!!

        FUCK NO!!!!!

But if I like it..I care..

I tried some of those Tung Sols in my XTC. They're nice sounding tubes. Very full sounding.

                  agreed!

I can turn up a bit now in my new place (it has a garage for music stuff! woo!) but still not as loud as would be fun (the garage is gonna need some work on soundproofing. booo!)

The guy with one of the most expensive amps around posts this thread... :ROTF:

Lets see you own a Crate and be happy happy.

And yes yer Marshall rack sounds good for duplicating Criss Oliva for sure. Umm, tones that are close to 20 years old. I never really thought his tone was all that anyways. Hall of the Mountain King was as good as it got for crunch. And your rig is more the later sound like Gutter Ballet - Edge of Thorns. Cool. But I couldn't live with it for a main amp.

As for the KT-88, great tube, my fav, but a Marshall can't run them at the voltage they need to shine IMO. Most marshalls run at less than 450 volts I seem to remember. My 2150 is running somewhere over 700 volts. It seems to make a difference for some reason.

People will always be proud of what they worked hard for and what is the bad ass amp on the block. Ya got it, flaunt it...

Bill, you own an Uber, a High end Marshal rack, and a AC Cobra Replica... Tell my you aren't a bit proud of them and like to boast of them. hehehe.....

Otherwise you'd drive a 76 Pinto and play a Crate...

Hehe... I still love ya tho.... :ROTF:

John, .."And yes yer Marshall rack sounds good for duplicating Criss Oliva for sure. Umm, tones that are close to 20 years old. Say what you will..you never sounded better to these ears.

Honestly, I wouldn't trade your rig for mine ..no way..

If you love your rig and makes you play your best AWESOME..but it's not for me, I can "get by" with it..but, I gel with the Marshall much better.

Seriously man, If I really wanted it..I'd have it.

If I wanted to build another rack, I'd prolly start with a 2150 and go from there. but this is "what-ifs" at this time, because I'm very happy with what I have..

So even between friends..to each his own..

I don't play "20 year old Oliva" , you heard me play it, I do modern stuff like latter day Death and Eidolon..and you heard that..admit it, I saw your face..

So, be a peach..and post that silly pic of that "Tone Sucking" JMP-1 AGAIN..and I'll dedicate this ENTIRE thread to you..I will..

If a CRATE did it for me like the JMP-1 does..I'd own it..and I KNOW I'd hear it from you constantly...because you already done that many, many, MANY times before..

I know you still love me, so there.
