this thread rocks. as someone who hasnt been able to play much or afford much, a great rig is still a dream for me. Making do with what ya got makes you get more out of it. I'd love the perfect tube amp, but I havent found a high gain tube amp that sounds good to me. I have a vintage tube practice amp from the '60s that sounds absolutely amazing, perfect 'tube' sound, but when it comes to metal I still havent found 'the one'. 5150/Dual Rec, both seemed limited/limiting. Id like to try a Vetta, Randall MTS series, JSX, or any of the chaching boutique metal amps, but until then I'll just wail on my v-amp pro

By the way, the Soldano avenger is just supposed to be the lead channel circuitry of the SLO100, with no effects loop or special features. However,it won't have the DeYoung transformers, so it won't be identical to the SLO overdrive, I wouldn't think. Also, if Reb is using 2000 series Marshalls live, that's kinda funny, cuz he stresses on his website to avoid newer Marshalls. In all honesty, I had the TSL100, and it wasn't by any means a bad amp. It just didn't have the creamy smooth gain of the SOldano, which is what I've always wanted. I think the SLO is best summed up on Van Halen for unlawful carnal knowledge and Scorpions Crazy world. Those are two dominant Soldano amp drenched albums.

My Blue Voodoo BV60H with KT66s sounds pretty nice, especially paired up with my new Randall 2x12/1x15 cab. My THD Univalve head sounds pretty nice through it as well.

I will add another reason for making clips. As a payback to the amp maker. I purchaed my bookeek amp used. I emailed they guy who makes them a couple of times wil questions. He took a lot of time time answer my questions and then some. He even went so far as to totally update my amp to the latest version at no cost. Schweeet! All with never earnling a dime of my cashish. I wanted to pay him back in some way. If I could drive a little business his way, I'd be pleased.

I agree about clips not sounding like the amp in the room does. I learned that early on when starting to record a live amp instead of using my XT. Clips do give a good idea of what the amp sounds like recorded though. I'm sure many people play live and record with their amp.

Me, I'm a basement wanker. So I guess this a good club for me. Bill, does the pud puller club have any byrules on if lube should be used or not? I can't make up my mind if I like it dry or with some NOS 70's Jergen's lotion. :ROTF:
