If you open up that Marshall JMP you will understand that the JMP means
Japanese Made Products because there isn't a single British made component in there!!!

Back to being serious....I agree with a lot of Bill's initial points in his first post of this thread. If folks are happy with their tone & reliability of their rigs it doesn't matter how much it cost or what name is on front of it. People shouldn't ragon peoples rigs regardless of what it consists of....that is so uncool to me.

I'm no tone snob although I do have a several amps that I love I will try and use anything. I'm also on the side of the age old debate that more of the tone of a player comes from the player, not so much their gear. I've heard good players sound like ass on great geat...I've heard crappy players sound great tone wise using homemade or lower end gear.

I will sound like myself whether I use any of my amps -or- my J-Station...sure I prefer the amps warmth but I still sound like myself and can achieve a nice tone from my modeler

I always confound true tone snobs anyways - my amps vary pretty widely across the board. Current list:

Randall RG80ES head (solid state, kickass amp)
Peavey JSX (three channel 'Chevy' of guitar amps)
SLO Clone (built as well as an original, finally figured out they used JCM800 2203 RI transformers in it)
Peavey Champ that I crammed a soldano preamp circuit in
Matchless Spitfire clone I built and added a footswitchable boost
Marshall 18 watt head I built
Peavey VTM60 I'm currently modding
Fab Fox *first one in US!*
Hohner tube PA head converting to guitar amp
Laney AOR30 converting to 6V6 JCM800
Only thing I don't currently have is a dedicated modelling amp, but I have ran my GT8 and J-station into a stereo power amp at the house and use the GT8 for fx at gigs.

We are truly blessed as far as options go for amps. And even more so if you don't need whatever is 'cutting edge' right now. Also remember that a lot of your tone is in your hands - I sound like me whether I'm going through a modelling amp, tube or solid state head. Sure, there will be some tonal differences due to different equipment being used, but YOU and how you play are the final ingredient in your sound.

Oh, and uh, I called my buddy's Uber a Pooperschall once just to razz him. I called it that because when cranked it will move your bowels for you.

John G, my good man..I don't care if my JMP-1 was made my a Ethiopian sweatshop put together but those starving kids you see on TV. If they did, they did a killer job. That JMP-1 has been my main stay since early 1996. Before I bought this, I had countless "quality" heads, hordes of JCM 800s , 900 , 2000 Marshalls, Mesa boogie MRKIII, two new Ampeg Lee Jackson VL100, Soldano HR100 & Korean 60, a new '92 Recto, seven 5150s, half a dozen Randalls, and a partridge in a pear tree..

Here is a little know fact that you guys DON'T know..

When John first came over my house around 1990 with his friend, he saw MY stable. which included the brand new 5150, By this time I already dicovered the BBE422 on my own..we didn't have forums and shit in '90.

At that time John was playing with his new JCM 900 and was quite happy with it, it did sound pretty good..he slammed the front with a wireless boost and had eq's in the loop...he seemed quite content..

Meanwhile, I grew more and more fond of the 5150 and Marshalls especially the 2210s..I liked those because It didn't mandate a 30 dollar pedal for my tone...and that's good thing in my book. I want it ALL amp!

John heard mine ..sold his and then bought my gear..

Meanwhile I kept my Marhsall 2210 full stack and bought another 2210 full stack ..I always wanted a "Wall of Marshalls"..for me..it's "mandatory"..still is. I was quite content with my wall with two mint 2210's..content, yet not in complete tonal bliss..only because they weren't consistent..one day great, next day crap!

Fast forward to 1996, John walked into a local store called the Musicians Swap shop. I was good friends with those clowns. They just got in the new Marshall rack system which is the 9200w/5881s, a JMP-1, and JFX-1..John played it and blew a fucking nut the size of Katrina..now mind you I had alot of nice amps..and was actually considering a VHT at this time!!

So he came RUNNING to me about this new Marshall rig, that I just had to hear..PRONTO!!!

I did, I went there and was completely blown away as well, it sounded just like my two 2210s but even better ..I bought that very rig that blew us both away..I traded my two mint 2210's , some misc gear collecting dust, a 1985 Hustler mag with Tracy Lords in it, and some money from my pocket..hey, it's only money at this point...

So I took it home and been happy every since..

Meanwhile John traded in his 5150s and some gear and cash like I did to do the same..

But he went to Lentines and bought a seconds , problematic JMP-1 and EL 34 version 9200 and ran his Intellifex instead..he was never happy..I went there to lend an ear..I too was never happy with his..it sounded nothing like mine...not at all.

It left a very bad taste in his mouth and has been raging on my stuff ever since , the very stuff he talked me into.

Some years later he came on board here and learned of the CAE and VHT 2150 from board members and bought those units from "Vince"...I don't know the guy.

So, I was quite happy with my rig, but to John and his click of new found friends..my stuff was sub par, cheap, and was pure 100% shit!

So, he introduced me to the board..I followed the same..I bought my Uberschall, I never even heard of one..Thingman posted a clip of one..it sounded great. I hunted one down, played it, and dropped 2K on it.

Funny thing is I still have more fun playing my sub par, piece of 100% shit Marshall..It makes me play better than the Uber..and it's not a moody bitch ..like all the other heads I owned including the Uber, which always irked me and still does..

While John and his gear..that he musses and fusses with constantly since he got it..banging on it as we played together..he's still not content and told me straight out repeatedly.."My gear sounds like ass lately" ..Contantly trying out speakers, twiddlin' knobs, and tinklin' bells..always walkin'..never stoppin''..doin' his magic..:ROTF:

But my gear, the gear he talked me into is a "piece of shit"..

I want to thank my friend John for TWO things..one..introducing me to my Marshall, thru constant great tone , it made me the player I am and will be...never tweaking and always PLAYING!

I could actually live life without the Uberchall , It's here, I bought it, it sounds great when it wants to, but like all my other amp heads.. it's a moody bitch that doesn't like the cold, the heat, the humidity, this or that. While my Marshall always greets me with a smile and open arms..just like mom!!

Just like putting on your favorite pair of jeans..it's always feels right!

That's why I will never poke fun at anyone again for liking the gear they do, especially if they know good tone and how to get it, and play great.

Did John's constant ball-bustin' hurt my feelings..yeah it did. It actually made me consider selling my Marshalls at one point. How fucking STUPID of me. ME, of all people should know better to care what others think..as long as I'm happy.

I'm with you, Bill. I rarely ever turn a knob on my little rig, and it always sounds the same and sounds great. It may only have a couple of tones in it, but they are all good tones. I have owned my fair share of amps and I find that I simply do not like to fiddle all day to find a good setting, only to lose it later when looking for another setting that is to my taste. I have a mental and aural picture of "my" tone and if I can find it in my equipment, I am happy. If I cannot, I sell and keep looking until I do find it. I would love to dick around with a MkIII Boogie or a Vetta or an Uber...and in the near future I probably will pick up another amp and dick around with it. However, I will always keep this little rig because I know it has "the" tone. Like a good pair of Italian loafers..every time I step into them they are right on the money.

I gave up with the constant tweaking fuggin' BS..

I discovered the gear that gives me the tone I want..without all the wasted energy of tweakin' 'till blue in the face!

If the Uber is being a fag one day..I go right to the Marshall. I know exactly what it's going to sound like before I turn it on!

Wow, nice gear! I LOVE Bogners, man, and the rest of the pile's no slouch either! I know a Vetta-owner is gonna flame to what I'm about to say (sorry guys), but this pics reminds me. I've been following the current season of Rockstar, and Rafael Moreira, the house band lead guitarist, plays Bogner. His tone is incredilbe. The one episode, Dave Nevarro decided to jam, too, with his Vetta amps. Sorry Vetta-owners, but I was a tad embarrassed for Dave, as those Bogners really spanked the Vettas. There was just no comparison.
Shawn, glad to see you are a fellow J-Station user. I still love mine. To me, it's the musical Swiss Army Knife.
