I've been using a Crate GX900H head for a while now, and am rather happy with the tones that I get out of it. It is great for metal. Right now, I AM currently looking for a tube head, more than likely a DSL head or Peavey Valvking. Maybe a Laney AOR head to go with this matching cab.

Horns - I CAN and DO make most amps sound bad. Remember - It's all in the fingers! LOL! Actually, the ONE thing I can do is get good TONE out of lots of amps, but I can't play worth a damn - that's all...:ROTF: It's funny how many people stop and look at Line 6 stuff when I'm goofing around on one at GC or whatever - that's kinda scary, because I'm not that good of a player!! It just makes me sound like a good player! I can find VERY GOOD lower volume tones from most Line 6 stuff. You just gotta know how to get there.

R2XK - I hear you - the Valve King was on my short list of amps to really look into (came THIS CLOSE to getting one!!), but again, considering my Pod is really the tone generator for me, it seemed silly for me to go tube since I'm not one of those who thinks that tubes really do much for L6 stuff, nor do I need to deal with the upkeep. That and I need the low volume capability to get good sounding stuff, and while the Peavey sounds pretty good quiet, I know I wouldn't be able to keep it that way for long, and I think my marriage would suffer consequently.

Are you running your POD as the preamp? I use my J-Station, in my live rig, but only use it for effects, and tuner.

Relatively recently I found out my Crate Stealth 50 watt tube head was designed by Lee Jackson, I guess that's why I used it for 10 years until I got my Vetta.

You'll not hear me speak a bad word about Crate, generally speaking of course.

He played another guitar I found interesting - a white King V style body with the Floyd Rose "speedloader style" headstock (just the outline of the HS - cut out in the middle, know what I mean?), only it was shaped like the newer Jackson 3x3 pointy headstock on the SLS - very cool, but odd at the same time.

Sounds like the Floyd Rose V...did it look like this?

Both. Somtimes I use the POD,and sometimes I use the amp's preamp. Today it was the amp's turn. Cranked it for awhile - this thing REALLY sounds pretty good! As it gets louder and I adjust the EQ, the majority of the Crate Fizz goes away, leaving a brash but tasty tone - I have a little more dialing in to do, and since it's supposed to rain all weekend... Kinda scary as far as the tone I'm getting even without the POD - wish I had known I could find some of this tone a while back -- it would have saved me alot of money!
