Cool, dude, no shit..I hear ya on the high vloume stuff. But I'm really enjoying them even at moderate (practice) levels as well..it really changed the character of the amp..for the better, what I was hoping for..

I'm a cynical bastid, I was expecting them to suck..

I wasted money buying tubes before, I was hoping this wasn't the case again..

I put only 1 in my engl SE and noticed a huge difference as you explained. They really are great preamp tubes. When I need to re-tube the preamp section, I will get all Tung-sol preamp tubes.

No shit , just one..yeah man, I'm forever sold!!

You can't go wrong..I can see them being to "dark" for some folks who love a lot of mids..but ALL guitars/Amps are nothing but mids..this just makes it more tame for me..without the worry of external crap...like eqs and shit.

Not that EQs are a bad thing but why use them when you don't have to..I think less is definitely more sometimes..

Ok, so I got my Tung-Sol 12AX7's and it totally changed the sound of my rig. I noticed a slight increase in output and it definitely made my amp a lot "darker" sounding like Bill said. They definitely help tighten up the bottom end and helped warm and smooth out the "honk" or mids when i had my amp cranked when playing with my band/friends.

These tubes were definitely an improvement over my last ones and worth the extra dough to me! All you will need to do is go and tweak the EQ on all your amps/presets because the tubes definitely change the character of the amp a little.

Thanks for the help and review Bill

Wow, now I really want to get some of those. That midrange "honk" that you guys keep talking about at high volumes; it's exactly what's been bothering me about my amp when I crank it up. Even if I find a good setting with an attentuator on...when I open up the attentuator, that midrange shows up all the time, regardless of my settings. I can't wait to get some.

            Cheers,
            Nick

Nick GET the TS's..I spoke to Dan at The Tube Store and explained my complaint about that "Honk" at high volumes and he highly recommended these tubes, he gets that complaint alot..He certainly wasn't lying..they truly rule..IMO!!

I am completely "Honkless"..and my Uber never sounded better..it's like a different amp, for the better!!!

Question about my amp, though...it has 5 tubes. V1 is Lead 1 input, V2 is the input for all other modes, V3 is lead and rhythm mixer, V4 is Lead 2, and V5 is the effects stage. I'm confused about the purpose of V3 and V4. What is the mixer, and what is the purpose of Lead 2, when V2 is already the input for all other modes?

                Thanks a lot,
                Nick

You'll need one of our house amp dudes for that one..On my bogner V1- thru V4 are preamp and V5 and V6 are the effects loop..I just bought the whole complet matched set of 6, getting a matched set will run you about $17 buck more..so I just said fuggit, the dude said getting a matched set wasn't a "bad thing"..so I just got 'em an popped them in there..I immediately noticed a difference in the both the output and the tone..

I had to tweak my noise gate on the G Major and turn down the gain knob on the Uber for the first time.

They definitely have a much darker, warmer, louder vibe going on compared to the JJ's..that's for sure..the JJ's don't have nowhere near the low end and were all mids..which gave me that godawful HONK when cranked..I was considering different poweramp tubed, but these work just fine with the EL34s I have in there..No need to change those at this time.

My Uber doesn't sound like it used to, it always sounded pretty good, now It just sounds BETTER all together!!!!

My ONLY complaint was that "honk" at high levels and now it's gone..I mean completely gone!!

Nice, I put in an order for some I'm excited, because I use JJs and have the same problem with the tone that you're describing. I got a matched set of 5 for my triaxis.

                    Cheers,

                              On matched preamp tubes...

If I understand correctly, aren't they only needed for the phase inverter (and that's debateable)? I don't think it matters for the other tubes.

BTW, after reading this, these tube are definintely on my "things to buy in the near future" list.

well I asked Dan that works there..he said "you want those matched right"...me.."Um is that neccessary"..Dan.."well it's not a bad thing"..it was a extra 18 bucks..so I go "fuggit, cool, sure matched it is"..

My Uber KILLS with fuggin' these tubes..I wouldn't know if it would kill if they wern't matched or not..but it kills and kill it will..it's like steroids for the Uber!

I'll go head to head with anyone and their Uber anyday..I know what they sound like with the stock JJ's and I know what it does now..I much prefer this..None that obnoxious "Honk" at very loud levels..levels that make your pants move!
