  • Death Metal Distortion

Does anyone have this pedal too? I got it as a gift and don't like it too much. It's really muddy.

Maybe it is the way I am setting the EQ's on the pedal and the amp?

So here is how I set it up.

I'm running it through the clean channel on my Peavey Envoy 110. I have the pedal scooped not as much as I have the amp scooped. Scooped meaning 9 or 10 on the low, 2 or 3 on the mid, and 9 or 10 on the highs. I really turn down the high on my pedal cuz of the ear piercing highs it produces though.

It just seems like I can't get the sound to be as good as the distortion from the amp, but I think it may have more to do with my lack of skill in setting it up than the pedal.

Or should I just chuck the pedal?

No, it's really a piece of junk. My brother bought one, and it just sounds rotten. It's either all shrill treble or all mud.

I take that back. I've never tried one through a gig-volume tube amp. But I can't think of one reason why I'd want to subject myself or anyone else to the risk of such torture.

Metal Zone is the only distortion pedal I like, really.(that I have tried anyway)

If not that, I just use the gain on my 5150 with a Behringer EX2200 in the loop. Chugga chugga.......hey!

Death Metal is a piece of junk! The best distortion pedal out there I think is the Dod Grunge! Even though I don't use mine, I won't part with it!

I have good luck with the Digitech Metal Master. It can do a few different type of distortion effects and works well with my solid state Randall RG75....Clasic Rat,Metal Zone, ect...karl

I bought both the Death Metal AND Grunge pedals one day when I was at Guitar Center. They were on sale for like 29 bucks each so I figured, what the heck. After trying both of them I decided to keep the Grunge pedal and give the Death Metal to my 12 y/o son to screw around with. I also use the Metal Zone and agree that I like the Metal Zone best. I do keep the Grunge and set it up next to the Metal Zone. Each has drastically different Distortion settings. One straight Metal (Metal Zone) and the other a dirtier sound (Grunge pedal). Gives me a little flexability and I don't have to bend down as much!
