  • Attentuator causes clean break-up?

Hi there...I've been mulling over this for quite some time, and finally decided to take the power attentuator out of the signal chain, and I found out it's causing my clean channel to break up. It doesn't seem to have an effect on my distortion channel that I can notice...but when I try to use it for cleans, there's a terrible break up in the signal that is alleviated if I bypass the attentuator. Why is this?

    Cheers,
    Nick

What attenuator are you using? I haven't had any problems with my hotplate and the clean channel. Also how wide open are you running the master volume for the clean channel? And most importantly what amp and what kind of power tubes does it use?
    We must!
    We must!
    We must increase the bust!
    The bigger the better!
    The tighter the sweater!
The boys are counting on us!

Well, I'm using a Weber Stereo Mass. Even with the master volume for the clean channel at 0 or 1, it still breaks up. I'm using a Mesa Boogie Triaxis, with a Mesa 50/50; the 50/50 uses JJ 6L6s...the triaxis I put in Tung-Sol 12ax7s across the board.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

      Cheers,
      Nick
