  • Soldano Avenger modern tones?

Hey can the avenger get that bass heavy modern tone . I like the way it sounds for soloing and such but can it get near recto, with a pedal? I like the mesa sound for rhythms but not for soloing.

No. it can't. Get a Rectifier for that tone.

framus cobra. the heavy channels with the notch engaged are somewhat similar to a rectifier but waaay clearer and tighter....although i also hear some traces of a super hotrodded jcm800 in there (like gary holt's exodus tone)

Buy this (other metal amp here). It will (positive comment here). Nevermind the fact that I don't address your question!

            Anyways....

+1 the Avenger will not get those sounds. I'd say you'll have to really slam the front end with a pedal, but I don't really know what you could do to loosen it up to get those Recto sounds in the rhythm department. Avenger was killer for thrash though.

Ok let me rephrase it a little. I like to sometimes get that modern chug (uber recto type) but also want to maintain clarity ,like if I play a diminished 7th chord or arpeggio I'd like to hear all the notes sing. I don;t want them to all come together and sound like mush. Also for fast soloing I want to hear every note. I've gone back for lessons lately and I'm playing a lot of complex chords now verses just 2 note power chords so I'm trying to find an amp that will sound heavy but clear. I thougt the avenger would be able to get the clarity but its lacking in chug I guess. Anything out there like that ? Thanks

The Avenger I heard would have killed for metal chugs, no pedal needed. Maybe because it was cranked, but the amp I encountered sounded stellar. If it wasn't a one channel no fx loop amp I'd own one right now.

Pete so you're saying this is the amp I'm looking for by my description right? I kinda thought that but am getting mixed opinions here. I gotta go play one at GC .The uber is great but its twice the price(used market).

Hmm... From your description it sounds like you should check out some VHT gear to me.. Clarity + tight + beefy low end (if you want)

My 2 gripes with the Avenger was that it was only one channel and there was no effects loop.

Yah man, The Uber destroys all that is close to gay..

The Tung Sols I threw in there..was like steroids..more bottom end than I could handle..with the JJ's, I had the low cranked..had to back it off with the Tung Tols..and like I said the notes just "sing" like my Marshalls to boot..

The only complaint I ever had was the midrange "Honk' when at high volume levels wit the stock tubes..not no more..not at all!!

Think Recto/5150..but much MUCH better than both, no comparison!!!!

Got mine used at three months old at $2000..maybe you could find one even cheaper..worth a look into..I think!

best modern metal amp head I ever tried, played or owned..by far!!

Those were my two gripes. But the Avenger I heard killed everything else for high gain in the room *in my opinion* including:

                              Bogner XTC
                              Bogner Uber
                              Bogner Shiva
                              Mesa Mk IV
                              Powerball
                              my Vetta

These were amps that all were in the same room getting checked out (it was an ampfest a few years back: Sully was there too.)
