I just tried my TSL60 again and I agree with you. I loose about 10% of my volume and some clarity with the G-Major. The funny thing is that when I use my Korg Pandora PX4 in the loop just for effects it barely sucks the tone at all. There still is a very slight volume loss though.
I checked online and the loop is a common issue with many DSL and TSL users.

I am using both the Roctron Intellifex and TC El G-Major with the TSL. Well, I guess I could agree that it is easier to detect some coloration with the G-major, but man, that would be neglectable. I mean replace V1/V2 tube with a different type and you are goingto hear a lot more difference in tone, comparatively speaking. My only guess is that what you are hearing is possibly due to the way you setup the G-Major?

What I mean by this is: since you are experiencing a drop in volume, it tells me that the input/output volumes in g-major are not setup optimally. If you play with it and get it right - there will be no volume change (unless you want it intentionally). When your volume drops, or goes up - subjectivelly you start hearing the frequencies and overall tone differently. This is just the nature of the human ears. Run an RTA, and you are likely to get exact same curve for different volumes, your ears will be be telling you differently.

Also, check that the g-major is configured in 100 serial mode too.Have the effect knob all the way to the 10 on the TSL.

If you love the sound of a "Marshall"..as I do.

        I really LOVE my JMP-1/JFX-1/ 9200 w/5881's rig..

Best sounding Marshall I ever had or heard..and I owned plenty.

OK, here is my test. Let me know if other TSL users have a significant difference in their tone:

          1. hook a cable from the FX send right into the return with no effects hooked up, just a patch cable.
          2. turn your FX mix knob all the way to the left.
          3. turn on your FX loop via footswitch.
          4. play a single note on your guitar and slowly turn your FX mix knob to the right (10).

When I do this, I lose both volume and clarity. In an email from Marshall, they said that this effect was characteristic of TSL's.

However, if a TUBE has a effect on the loop, then I'll try some other preamp tubes to see what happens.

Just did it, out of curiousity... no, does not change anything. There is a bit different noise floor level with the knob all the way to the right, but just a tiny bit.

No, changing a tube(s) would not make a difference for the effects loop, it is op amp buffered (check the schematics). The only degradation of signal quality is possibly with a severe resistance/impedance mispatch between the amp effect loop and the effect input. Oh, check the loop level push button at the back, could you have overlooked the line level?

I don't know what you are experiencing, possibly try a different amp in a shop etc to see if you get the same thing? I tried only two TSL amps myself - a 122 and a 60, so can not comment on all of them....

No offense to and DSL/TSL users..if you like 'em..by all means enjoy them..

I owned 100wt DSL, after playing with it for less than an hour ..I knew immediately..it had to go..worst Marshall I ever owned, played or heard by far..

I heard dudes better than I get by with 'em just fine..so more power to them..

              Not for me tho..no way!!

No I didn't check it. Should this be in or out if using a rack mounted effects unit.

Should be out if you are using G-Major.

Somehow at a glance I thought this thread said "taking a dump on my TSL". That would not be good. Resume.

argh... mine is out. Maybe I'm having some technical problems with my TSL? I guess I'll need to head to a GC and see if the FX loop react the same on a model there.
