this may sound daft, but is there such a thing? i know there's never the right selection of guitars with EMG's, Duncans, DiMarzios etc to try in a shop, so perhaps if there isn't one around already, someone should release some kind of fx processor that emulates these.

To the best of my knowledge, there isn´t anything like that available today. I guess if you were running it off some sort of MIDI-pickup it could work fine, though... and the processor can only have pickup-strength output. Hmm...kinda cool idea, actually.

Yeah, if you run it off a MIDI-pickup (which is a must, since you need a neutral "signal" to begin with if the pickup emulations are to be accurate... and to the best of my knowledge MIDI is the same regardless if it reads from the strings of a Rhoads or a Tele) you could have a complete guitar emulator. But then, on the other hand, you´d basically have a variation of one of those Line 6 guitars but in a box and much more detailed and useable. Anyway, I dub it - The Transformer.

Not really the same thing, but the Boss GT-8 has some kind of pickup emulator thing where it can make single coil pickups sound like humbuckers and humbuckers sound like single coils. I've never tried it on mine, but I guess I should read the manual and dig deeper into the unit.I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.
