  • Recording with the Vetta?

So whats the best way to go about recording on the computer with the Vetta? I like my TonePort and all, but I cant get "my" sound through it like I have on the Vetta. Vetta I HD btw... do I need that VDI card?

(copied from Channel6, guy named Armin, who happens to do his own Vetta mods)

"In case your audio card has koax digital in's - then use the koax digital outs from the Vetta (best sound).
Else use the XLR out's and connect them to your audio card - you need a cable XLT to cinch (or whatever inputs your audio card has)."

I havent used my Vetta with my pc other than for updating via USB Midisport, so I hope this helps.

Hm, I can use the two XLR's out right into the two XLR inputs on the TonePort! That should work! Now to go get some cables...

XLR's left and right from Vetta out to your recorder. 1/4" jacks left and right out work great too.
The SM57 mic model works great.

I'd mic the amp if I were you... Wasn't real happy with the DO's on my Vetta (upgraded to 2.03 software though) and even paid for Armin's magic DO mods.

...they sounded like a shit sandwich. Hopefully the 2.5 has much better outputs, but I always had the best results just miking the amp at home and especially at gigs.

The mic sims on 2.5 are outstanding. I use them all the time in a total pro recording suite. We couldn't get real mics to sound better and we have some really kick ass recording mics. My bass/keyboard player is a music editor for Viacom/MTV/MTV2.

I'll take your word for it John, but I heard the DO's are based on the XT's. I just don't see how a sim is going to beat a properly miked cab, and I'm one of the biggest modelling proponents around here.

It does Pete, but keep in mind that we are pumping the Vetta through a really expensive Aphex Tube preamp. We found the best results with the SM57 sim.

Just gave it a whirl... ran it through the TonePort UX2 with "no amp" selected. Wasnt real happy with the sound to be honest. Granted Im running it through a nice set of computer speakers/sub so Im sure that will affect it, however I know the sound I hear is the sound that will be recorded, and its not really working for me. I just wish I could get the damn sound that comes out of the cabs recorded.

Oh shit, now that I think about it, I didint mess around with cab models... Im sure that would help some... doh!
