  • Acoustic guitar and SM57?

I don't know if this is the right place, but check the question, maybe it is.

Ok, so, how do I record an acoustic guitar (steel stringed)?

The only mic I got is a Shure SM57 I use to mic my cab for recording electric guitar, but, how should I record an acoustic guitar?

    1) If it's an electro-acoustic, mic the amp?

    2) Point the mic to the soundhole and record? If so, what's the best way of doing this?

Go direct and mic the sound hole use 2 different channel mix the sound to your taste.

Ive always liked to use two or three condensers in the studio, one in front of the soundhole, one over the shoulder (kind of picks up what your ear does that way) and one near the 12th fret sometimes. I'd experiment with mic'ing stuff and mixing it with a direct signal like jtr suggested given what you've got to work with.
