Didnt say not reliable This guy WAS a Bogner dealer for too many yrs to count and he said they are FRAGILE. He was the tech too so he should know. I never owned one nor will, just passing on some 411 from a person who has fixed them and sold them for yrs. Bogner amps sound great but so do many others to ther owners. Either ya love an amp or ya hate it.

I would assume he is talking about the tubes they shipped with, probaly when he was a dealer years ago was when EL34's were still fragile and would break alot. You also need to bias bogners and I would assume alot of people where biasing them really hot, plus EL34's already run at higher current, so i bet he was seeing alot more blown tubes.

Tubes have gotten alot better in this day and age and I have never cracked open my bogners, but I have heard they are built like tanks, maybe it is time to get out the screwdriver and see what is inside, it has been a year and i should check the bias's anyway.

But as to being fragile, nothing else in the amp would be classified as fragile, resisters and electronics components cant be classified as fragile, cheap yes, but not fragile. i doubt highly bogner is using cheap components with how much they charge and there reputation. And i also doubt highly bogner uses thin PCB's since they argue that if you use a thick PCB's then it is just as reliable as handwiring an amp.

You have to remember, most guitar amp techs are guitarists themselves, and like any other guitarist they are usually biased towards one amp company or another.

I remember reading back in like 2001 that some guy posted on a board or review site saying a amp tech told him that he saw more mesa boogie rec's in the shop then Marshalls so there fore in his opinion the Marshall JCM900/2000 series was more reliable and built better.

But what most people dont consider is back in the late 90's and up to about 2 years ago Mesa boogie Rec's where probaly out selling marshalls 10 to 1, so of course with more in use on stage, you were gonna see more needing repair. I also would say alot of amp problems are results of the guitarist who doesnt know how to properly take care of an amp, most musicians are younger and just do not have the respect and knowledge for equiptment yet.

if you are gonna get on xtc, make sure to get one with the A/AB and half power switch, pretty much make sure it has all the bells and whistles. I do love the A/AB switch on mine, completly changed how i felt about the red channel.

Well, fragile certainly implies unreliable, don't you think? It would to me and I think if someone told you that an amp was fragile you would conclude it was unreliable.

Siggy probably had a point with the tube issue, but really your word from the Bogner dealer and tech is more of a sound bite than a full story. You were obviously not interested in the amps anyway or you'd have followed up with a question like "What's wrong with them? What MAKES them fragile?"

Anyway it's kind of dumb for a guy to be knocking the amps he sells and fixes; what's up with that? I bet there's an understory there....

Alls I know is that he has been a Bogner dealer for yrs and has had to fix alot of them quite often he said. These are ampos used by the top road guys and session guys. I really dont care about a Bogner.Theyre too expensive for me.
Im just repeating what a man said who has been in business for 30 yrs and seen it all. Maybe it was the tube issue.. WHO cares? I dont . so take it for what it is. Just an observation. Like I said people hate marshalls,line6,Bogner.Mesa,And all other amps too. The best amp in the world is the one your playing thru and like. ANd BTW he QUIT selling them because he was always fixing them under warranty.

I owned my Uberschall for over 4 years now..I love it.

some other local dude owned his 101B for much longer and gigs all the time with it..he loves his too..

Not many people have them around here..but we know other the people who do..that kinda news travels fast.

My Bogner is by far the best "grab and go" head I've ever owned, played or heard..PERIOD!!

Yes, I've completely lost it..but I have great tone.

Its like people say, if they were so fragile and breaking down alot the word would travel alot. You read harmony central and other reviews and you never hear of bogner being fragile.

Unfortunaly i think this tech just has an issue with bogners, i guess my biggest question would be, does he still sell amps? If he does i have seen alot of dealers knock high end amps in order to get someone to buy whatever they were selling.

A good example, chuck levins in MD, when i first bought my Dual Rec, the sales guy was like, oh mesa is so much better then marshall and any other amp out there right now, he was selling bogners and Peaveys at the same time but not marshalls back then.

Well like a year or so ago they lost there mesa contract to sell, so now you go in there and that same sales guy will be like, oh marshall and bogner are the best, they blow away mesa's.

Remember it is all about money! Actualy when you think about it, why would a tech steer you away from a amp that he knows he will make good money off of you if you buy it and it breaks down alot?

Remember opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one, some are just a little more full of Sh!t then others.

Im just a messenger. I dont own nor can I afford a Bogner.. I think the other guy had the answer when he said the tubes had issues. Like I said I dont care either way.

Who cares? Anybody who's thinking of buying Bogner but who might be put off by your comment that really had no backup to it. If you had gone on to ask the guy and he gave you some specifics of build quality issues, then you'd have something besides a headline with no story.

You know, ALL tube amps are fragile to the extent that the tubes are fragile. So if that's what he meant, then it just means he had a hard-on with Bogner - which you said he no longer carries. You heard HIS story of why he no longer carries them; it might be interesting to hear their side of the story.

If you don't want to break the bank, the Fender Pro Sonic is a wonderful sleeper that gives you traditional Fender cleans and a mooded Marshall tone, circe 1984-ish, with a choice of 3 different rectifiers on tap. They are very reasonable on the used market.
