  • Vetta first gig

well, the Vetta is going to be put thru its paces!

I'm playing my first gig with my cover band this Saturday and the Vetta will get it's first onstage run. we're playing at The Crest in Torrance 9 - 1 if anyone is interested.

basic cover band stuff, some hard rock, some pop, some classic rock.

we have practiced and practiced and practiced and now we're ready to f'g play.

      that's it!

I get to use the Bogner Uberschall model on Celebrity Skin by Hole, that's about our most metal song. and I use the Soldano model on Everlong and White Wedding.

Are you going to use the direct outs and run stereo, or mic a cab? I've been contemplating how I will run mine when my band plays their first gig since buying the Vetta. I spose since we have a rhythm guitarist, it might be unfair of me to sound that damn good Not to mention, I would probably sound much more dominant with a stereo signal to his mono one... I will at least try and see whats what though.

I'm not mic'g it. there really is no need in the place we're playing, it's your basic dive bar. the amp sounds fantastic all by itself running in stereo with the two amp models at once, and it's plennnnty loud. we already run the keyboards through the PA.

I'm expecting us to have to do some tone and directional tweaking after setting up, but I'll have no trouble filling that room with sound.

sometime in the future when I have a few bux handy I'll probably get a closed back 2x12 cab for the distortion tones, and run them in stereo with the cleans through the combo speakers (open back).

OK, our gig on Sat went great, everyone liked us, and we got lots of compliments. the most significant being that the club invited us back to play on New Years Eve at a much better pay rate. so that's cool enough for my first gig!

the Vetta performed admirably. in fact it was loud enough to fuck up my R ear for several days, it's still not back to normal (I was turned slightly to the right most of the show and my R ear is already sensitive, I should have had an musician's earplug in - will do that from now on).

I notice the amp really belts out the cleans, but the open back takes something away from the heavy overdriven tones. I had to turn up when playing the distortion tones. I guess a closed back cab for those is the solution.

either way I was quite happy with my sound overall and I know the crowd got an earful! great first gig.

I didn't bring my Model 2 this time, as the Fender and the V are a bit more versatile for some of the tunings we are doing, and this being my first show, I wanted to have maximum flexibility. the Charvel will get a run at the next show I think.

cool photos and nice guitars mateyeahh save those ears!It realy is too easy to forget to put ear plugs in when playing at high volume but its wise to do it.My bassist is only 18, and even at that age has ruined his ears for good.My ears have been a bit spanked recently but i do protect them now when the volume goes up.I use my parker/strat for tuning issues so i can see why your using the V and fender-having a floyd is cool on most tunes but if your using several tunings per set you need the old workhorsesgot any clips?

Congratz... keep tweaking the Vetta until you get it perfect live. It takes a few gigs but you will get it dialed in. A closed back extension cab would help if you need more bottom end. I have both the Vetta HD and the Vetta combo so I know what you are talking about. The combo can throw out some serious heavy tones live, you just have to dial it in more.
                          Nice pics!!!
