  • Best/worst Rocktron Hush models?

As far as I'm concerned, the old Rocktron Guitar Silencer is the best thing since sliced bread, but my 1/3-space Hush II is far less effective. I just picked up a two-button "The Hush" pedal that works well enough, but I'd like to get some input on what other Hush models are worth getting...or not. Anything remarkable about the Exciter/Imager versions? Any decent non-Rocktron alternatives going for under $100 on the used market?

The single button, single knob "The Hush" pedal is absolute shit. Should be called "The White Noise Generator"

I wonder what they changed between the two-button version and current one-button version...besides the number of channels (and buttons) on it. This one is silent, and I got it in mint condition for $30.

I forgot to mention in my original post that I'm especially interested in the two-channel/stereo models as my rack rig is stereo, two preamps into a stereo power amp.

I had a IICX (I think that's what it was called) two channel hush. Worked pretty well with the Peaveys I had at the time. Did suck a little bit of tone I found, but nothing major.

I'd have to disagree, I think that the older one knob Hush II 1/3 rack space noise gate is by far the best one I've ever used. I had the Hush IIB and two versions of the Hush IIC and original 1/3 rack space Hush II was byfar the best!! Had one of the later two button Hush pedals and dumped it real quick! One of the worse gates they ever made.

I have a Waller combo amp with the Decimator NR system (Buck from Rocktron's newest technology) and it's amazing how much noise it cuts out. I imagine the decimator pedal and rack units are at least as good....

I use the triple C rack unit, works fine and doesn't affect the tone too much if you spend time adjusting the settings. Think hanneman had the same one at the unholy alliance gig in glasgow the other day

Bumping this after helping a buddy of mine get his IICX dialed in. He has a small home studio where we (and many other local metal bands) recorded our first album, but never had any sort of Hush unit. I suggested that he try the IICX, and it works great. I'm thinking of picking one up, but first I'm going to see if I can get any decent results from my little II model. If anyone else has tried other models (Exciter/Hush, Hush Elite, etc.) feel free to post your comments.

Maybe when the ISPs hit eBay for $70-80. Not practical at this point.

I still find myself going back to an old Hush IICX in my rack system...it seems to retain my original tone better than the other units that I've tried.

In my old rack system I have the Hush IICX. For pedals, I love the older 2 button Hush The Pedal. I think I have three of those things around here that I use for various pedal combos. Its too bad they stopped making those, I really like them.

+1.....seriously, save the money and get the ProRack G. Nothing touches it. I've had the Hush IICX, Studio Hush and currently own two Guitar Silencers. The Silencers are the best of those but still not in the same leauge as the ProRack G.

What do Guitar Silencers normally sell for? I checked Ebay and couldn't find anything.

I took my Hush II to the practice space today to test with my noisy ART DST head, and it was only effective with the threshold cranked...but it did help somewhat. Unfortunately, I was able to determine that the Hush is also what was cutting out on me at two recent gigs.
