  • in the market for a cabinet

    here's the deal,

    i have a 5150 blockletter and i need a cab, has to be a 412.
i play shred, micheal angelo batio stuff, cob stuff 'tallica etc.

i want to pay somewhere in the 500- ish range. it has to have stereo outputs too. (8 ohm and 16 ohm) for fullstack possibility.

i want fat clear lead tones, and soft - non ear piercing highs.

i play in d if that helps any, thanks for taking the time to read this.

Though I don't think they have Celestions, Marshall AVT series are good cabs. B52 cabs are suppossed to be good as well. You could always buy a speakerless cab and have the speakers you want put in too.

For 5 bills... search pawn shops for a used Marshall 1960 cab.
You're not going to find anything "high quality" for under $750 new.

Ain't that the truth. Just dropped almost a grand for a Mesaboogie oversized 4x12. Bottom end for dayz =)

Does the word EQ mean anything?

i try to keep pedals at a minimum, also i'm talking about durability not just sound.

i think i'll go with an avatar with v-30's
also, how come if an angled cab is angled up, as well as straight (speakers) it goes on the top rather than the bottom of the stack. it would seem to make more sense that if a person was standing, he would want the sound projected at his head (angled on the bottom) rather than the ceiling (angled on the top). is that for stadiums and such as the seating goes up?

                  maybe i'm just dumb.

anyways thanks for all the reply's guys

The 5150 sounds best with the 5150 cabinet.

I know that a half stack will blow away a full stack sound wise! Most people think the latter! I'll put two halves together anyday over a fullstack! Seems like full sound better outdoors though. As far as cabinets.... I love my Rivera 4x12 w/ vintage 30's, made with Finland birch plywood. I seen them go pretty cheap on the bay and fairly often too!
                        I love admins!

i appreciate your reply but i am going to have to disagree, i tried it and it just sounded tooo dry, and the speakers were broken in too.

i'm going to go with a custom avatar.

thanks to all for the replys.

The 5150 doesn't sound best with the 5150 - I'd agree. Nor does it sound it's best with a BBE in the loop.

Try yours with a tubescreamer and a Recto cab - they can be had used for 500 or so. I just got mine in, and it is, without a doubt, the best cabinet I've ever heard.

Of course it sounded like a shit sandwich if the speakers were broken LOL
