..I'll give you my sincere, most honest answer..I don't think I'll be selling any of my gear to get..but ya never know..

I'm just going for the high gain channel..the other channels can suck my balls..

I'm much too evil to play pretty shit..so why bother with the clean or semi-clean stuff..
I just want balls out , fuck my ass tone!!

Yes it sounds like the clips. it was the damn Bob Savage 101B clips that used to be on Bogners site that kept nagging at me an dnagging at me until I bit the bullet.

I hear GREAT amps sound like shit and shit amps sound GREAT with clips..

To know what a amp really sound like..you must be playing that fuck up close and personal..with your face right in the cab..and that's it..

Now I know a dude with a XTC..sounds fuggin' great..I had my face in his cab..sounds like a refined old mashall ala "Flick of the switch" to my ears..I said that and the dude smiled because that's excatly what tone he goes for..

Now I can get "close" with my Uberschall by backing the gain to about 10:00 but it still doesn't sound quite like the XTC..

I played a Legacy, ..after John and I played that amp for 10 minutes..we just looked at each other, rolled our eyes and said no way man..but that's just us..and we have our slight personal difference in tone, due to our playing styles ..we both have great amps/tone for our own personal needs..

Now I thought every Uber "clip" sounded like crap on the Bogner site..but a old JCF member Thingman posted his and perked my interest..there was one on Ebay just a a couple hours from me..so I check it out and threw down 2k on it so fast it would make your head spin..I never heard a more .

IMO..I NEVER heard, played or owned a more girthy, organic BRUTAL amp than the Uber, ...but that's what I like ..it's sounds like what a recto/5150 should sound like to me..but there is no dodging the cost..if you want that tone you gotta pay for it..it's a matter of how bad you want it and if you have the finacial means to get it..there is no shortcuts.

All amps sound different..they all have their own tone and sig..and one can not duplicate the other..period!

Believe me, my good man John G could dial up his best Uber tone with the Vetta, I'm sure it would sound great ..but if I was right next to him..it would be apples to oranges..I assure you.

        Bill Z Bub

BTW..I will be test driving a Peavey JSX head this week..I will give you my honest opinion..I'm going to try to get the tightest, baddest tone out of it for my style of "metal"..so wish me luck..I have a feeling I'll be impressed..I heard such great things about them from very credible players..fuck, I may buy it if it's that good!!

Bill is 100% correct in that you have to really play an amp to decide if its for you, how it reacts to your pick attack, how responsive it is...you can't "feel" sound clips like you can when your pushing air for real Only YOU will know if it works for YOU...not clips of other dudes playing it ...heheh

Not to mention how you EQ your sound card, the speakers you use on your computer all effect how a sound clip sound. It is something you just have to play in person.

Also, if you have the means getting producer Andy Sneap wouldn't hurt ..that guy is a tone god, second runner up is Roy Z. I may be meeting with Andy in the studio this month..hopefully.

I would give my left one to have him do my stuff..because whatever he touches is pure perfection IMO!!

Look what he can make a Krank sound like..

I have an Ecstasy and a K-Tre and they couldn't be more different.

Can't say for sure what a good alternative to the XTC would be, though.

Based on your posts, I can see you not digging the Legacy. It seems that you are after a pure brutal tone, all else be dammed, and the Legacy is not the amp for that. To be honest, if I bring my Legacy home and play it by my self I don't really like it that much, but with the band (Classic/Hard rock ala SRV, VH, STP, LZ etc...) it just shines. Works really well for me with the band, which is what I bought it for, afterall. In fact, for me, the Legacy is the best amp I have owned for playing with a band in my 20 years of doing this. The legacy just makes my '74 Marshall Greenback cab sing. Bottom line is that no amp is for everybody, and every amp will react (sound) different with different players. Clips are the most useless indicator of how an amp will sound/react to YOUR playing and tastes IMO.

For a tone refrence of my tastes, the other heads I own that I like are a Laney Pro Tube 30 head (with Tube Screamer), Marshall 2205 head, and for guitars I usually use late '70s Strats (Ash, Maple, hardtail) usually with something like a Fast Track II in the bridge position, or a bone stock EJ Strat.

                        Yes, I hear you ..

Steve Vai helped design and plays the Legacy..It sounds awesome when he plays it...so there ya go..

Yer absolutely right..I'm a one trick pony kinda player..basically one channel , one sound for everything I write and do..I go for the most "brutal" sound I possibly can...funny thing is I still can play VH with it..I just back off my touch really..

John said when he plays thru my amp he feels like he's "running thru sand"..when I play his amp, it doesn't nearly have enough "push" for my style..but we both sound great when we play our stuff..we never sounded better.

So, Yes.. you gotta go whatever works for you..I recently played a Recto AGAIN just to confirm my stance on them. Within' seconds I was reminded exactly WHY I don't like them..BUT my favorite metal player of all time.. Jeff Loomis never sounded better when he uses his..

I heard great things about The Legacy..I can't slam them really, they're good amps indeed, just not for my needs..

I'll be test driving a Peavey JSX because I heard so much positive things about them from credible folks here. I'll be playing one for the very first time tomorrow at GC!!

What works for one player doesn't always work for another..this is true...even amoung very like-minded buds..

You could buy every Zakk Wylde signature item possible ..Amp, Guitar, Stomps, Wah, Speakers, strings, picks , cables and etc and sound NOTHING like Zakk Wylde...

Ya Know Shawn ..that was exactly the first thing that I thought when I saw your pic..and the pretty brown grill cloth..NICE!!

I like the way my Uber looks without that metal grill face plate..it's basically looks like the rear grill..I like the tradition look much better.

When I saw this pic of your amp..I was reminded of this..it looks totally classic..and I really like that!!

Now I really want a matching Uberkab..just for the fuggin' looks ..

Marshall cabs are COOL..but now looking at my Uber on a Marshal cab..it's looks gay..
