M Audio Jam Lab (Computer Recording)

I want to find an easy way to hook up the guitar to the computer to record riffs. Is this the best/least expensive way to go about it?

I actually have it. The software just sounds shitty, but with cubase and some nice vst's it work well.

Will it only play out the computer speakers or can I run the line from a stomp pedal mixer out to the jam lab and then have the amp line out run to my amp?

The headphone output is really crappy IMO.
