  • George L cables

Hey guys and girls. I need new cables as my Planet Waves cables have finally packed up (not bad for 4 years use). So i've been looking into George L's as they have a pretty good reputation.

How do they hold up? Do they colour the sound quite a bit?

What else would you recommend? I looked into Monster cables but they're pretty expensive.

I have the George Ls and I like them.

Monster cables are very pricey. I use them in my bass rig and it cost me an arm and a leg...

The George L's don't color as far as I can hear and my CAE3+se is VERY touchy to showing things like that. I have ALL George L's in my rack and even the amp to the guitar cable.

The only other cable I like better with that preamp is the Monster SP-1000, and they are hella expensive beyond logic. And, IMO, the cheaper monsters aren't really worth spending the money on.

It also depends on the amp/rack etc. I never really noticed the differences in cables all that much (other than obvious noise and construction quality) with my Marshalls, 5150s, Mesa etc... It took the CAE to really display the differences in wirelesses, cables and even strings etc.

With most amps, you're probably doing fine with the Planets waves, they are quite a good cable.

Monsters are expensive. The first time. But just keep in mind they have a lifetime warranty for replacement. So anything after the initial purchase is free replacement. Same with Mogami. Although the Monsters do have a great reputation etc. I still like the sound of my old Conquest and wirlwind cables better. Which all still work. George L's are good cables they're alot thinner so theyre lighter in wieght but they also have a thinner cable isnide. Ive been thinking of redoing my pedal board with George L's cus my little hosa ones are crappin out.

I make my own cables. I can get Mogami cable in bulk and I use neutrik connectors (gold or regular). Its just easier for me. I enjoy making cables and plus I can make any custom length I want and I can make whatever connections I need. XLR,TS, TRS,Speaker, right angle, etc

I use George L's for verytihng except speaker cable where I use Monster. I have a couple long GL instrument cables that get ratted up easily. They are easy to fix if you have an issue with them...just snip of a bit and re terminate using the same connector.

                +1

so easy to fix. I also carry about 20 feet of GL cable and a couple ends in my gig bag. I can make any length cable is minutes if needed. I have made a bunch of 1 footers for people to fix pedal board problems at the gig. Because the ends are reusable I just throw it back in the bag and the ends are ready for the next crisis.
