I use a Maxon OD808 or OD9 and sometimes a MXR ZW44(SD1 on steroids) with my Dual Recto. I get a thick, chunky, and tight high gain sound similar to Killswitch Engage or Unearth.

Its basically the same as the DOD 250. Its a great pedal for slamming your preamp tubes in the mouth and it works equally as good in the effects loop as a boost.
It only works well with tube amps though.

Hey John, I've heard that the AC adapter plug on it is a male connector. Can I just change that with a proper one that will connect to my snake?

Yes, just make sure you have the polarity correct.
