Anyone ever use this? I'm thinking about getting a back up to my Fender Rock Pro. I can't really afford a nice tube amp.. wish I could.

I was having some amp issues at practice and used a Spider II 150 (I think) to get by...and it was awful. I use a solid state ART at practice most of the time, and it destroys the Spider. That thing sounded like complete crap, and they sound the same live. No midrange at all.

I've played through them at work. They do sound good but a bit over processed. Im actually liking the Vox Valvetronics stuff better these days. Not as processed sounding and they can still rip your face off like a tube amp.
Inazone. If it didnt have any mids it might have been the cabinet itwas going through or there is soemthing wrong with the head. I can get mids out of them just fine.

I have one. To be honest, its a mediocore to poor amp. first off the EQ is way too touchy. Then its only output impedance (sp?) is 4 ohms, which really limits your cab choices. Next, the Crunch channel is worthless. Its just god awful. The Insane channel isn't bad, but once you crank it, even with the noise gate on, it starts to sound like crap. The metal channel is the bright spot, as it flatout owns. The clean channel gets the job done, but isnt overly loud. It is however very good for putting an OD pedal in front of. Next the effects aren't bad, but your control over the Chorus/Flange is very limited. Finally reliability seems to be hit or miss with the Spider series. Look at a Vox like suggested or a Marshall MG series. Even if its a backup, you don't want your sound to be hurt because your main amp went down and your back up is crappy.

Its a good practice amp but thats it. If you need a backup for your RocPro 1000 why don't you just get another one??

There's a Roc Pro head in the classifieds right now for $190 shipped. If you like your amp that's a good deal for a backup that's the same thing. It's on page 2 right now, an ad that also had a Carvin X60B combo, which is sold. But the Roc Pro is still available apparently...
