  • BBE Sonic Stomp

In my quest to get that bigger sound I stumbled onto the BBE sonic stomp. I have no experience with BBE but I have a good idea what they do. For those BBE users: Are the BBE maximizers the same theory as a tube screamer or is it something entirely different? I have a tube screamer and it's ok but...... I want something that is really going to thicken the sound.

It's different. It's made to align the sound signal for a tighter, more defined signal.

I have one. I cant explain it, but it is ALWAYS on. it tightens and focuses everything about my tone.....

Maybe its my carpeting? But running my Sonic Stomp thru

My brothers DLS 100 FS with his wood floors...we hardly can tell any
difference. But back home in my carpetted guitar room, i cant live without
it~! It makes about a 40% difference in my DSL 50 wt marshall. Tighter
bass, defined mids, and more sustain! Like most owners claim, once you
click it on...you can never play without it again! For $99 its a great
addition imo. Im playing a USA Dinky with active pups

are you guys using this pre or post distortion ?

i used a 401 post preamp and to be hones except for making my sound more sterile and "fake" it didn't change all that much

I'll try it before the amp if I lay hands on a Stomp version.

Honestly with that amp i tried it with it sucked or was real close to sucking imho

I'm using a 362NR, which is more of a general-purpose model with a wider frequency range. I use it as sort of an "EQ fine-tuner" once I have my EQ dialed in but need to focus the overall tone a bit more, such as to remove mud or harsh high end. It's not the silver bullet of awesome tone for me, but I opted against selling it because it let's me leave my amp and EQ settings more or less alone and just tweak things a bit.

How I understand they work is like this: Since low frequencies travel slower than high frequencies, the sound at your ears can be out of sync with the lows occurring a split second after the highs. The BBE stuff delays the highs a bit so all of the frequencies reach your ears at the same time.

My buddy had one a few years back. It definitely helped the sound coming out of his Marshall MG, but I tried it on my JCM900 and it made almost no difference. As a poster above said, it has different effects with different amps, so try it out before you buy.

It is unrelated to a pedal like the TubeScreamer, which is an overdrive pedal which simply boosts the gain.
