  • Some speaker related questions

    Hi everybody,
I'm going to buy a speaker for my tiny terror head for my apartment, it will be for a 1x12 cab ( in this case into a 1912 ) and I was wandering what impedence was the better for home playing. I guess that the G12 150w that comes with 1912 would be too much for apartment playing right?
I'd like a speaker that would be able to break at low volume so I assume that lower wattage would sound better? Which is the best choice between greenbacks and V30s for a nice bass response and smooth high freqs without having to crank the sh!t out of it?
And last question: what if I plug one of my 50w heads in lets say a 1x12 25w cab?

    Thanks!

a greenback should be just fine, as long as its a closed back cab. just don't crank the amp to full volume and you'll be alright.

Nice bass and smooth highs sounds like a G12H30 to me (30 watter). Like Dreamland_Rebel says, don't crank it and you'll be allright. I use one with a 90 watt tube amp, even live (volume knob never over 10:30 AM because it is LOUD with the other VIN30 loaded in the cab that is also getting 90 watts).

I do love my Greenbacks for a nice low volume sound. Once they get loud and hot, they sound pretty nasty tho. For home, I'm quite satisfied with their sound over the 75 watt celestions.

If you have the dough, the best sounding unit (to my ears) hands down that I've heard so far is the EV12, Zak Wyldes endorsed speaker. Umm, I'm not a fan of him much tho...

So far the greenback seems the best choice, I'll find to try some electro voice too but they're pretty rare around here. Can I put the greenback in a cab designed for a 150w celestion?? And what about ohmage for low volume playing? With 16 ohm of resistence I can crank the amp much more right?

Absolutely. Speakers don't have watts... they are just rated to handle a certain amount of watts from an amp. If your amp is 100 watts, I wouldn't crank it and use a speaker rated for less than 100 watts.

The Tiny Terror is a 15-watt amp, so use any speaker rated at 15 watts or more.

I was refering to cab design for matching speaker frequencies and all that shit you know? I'm not into this stuff so much

Yeah, it is fine to use the same cab. Cabs pretty much are designed to an appropriate internal physical volume to match the speaker size 10/12/15/18 and basic desired fequency response range (such as guitar, bass or full range application).

I hope that makes sense... Basically, different wattages or impedences don't affect design of the cab. The speaker size (obviously) and a desired freq range required does.
