  • Pedal for Classic 50

Hey everyone. I am looking for a pedal to add more sustain to my amp. I looked at Big Muff, and Tube Screamer from Ibanez. However im not sure how they work with my Peavey Classic 50 212. The sales man said something about them not working with tube amps so i didnt buy one. However i think he was lucky to get his shoes tied this morning.

The Tube Screamer is a GREAT choice.

Tube screamer NOT working with tube amps?

      He's totally a dumbass.

Not that it will "definitely" amaze you with that amp, but with some amps it is a VERY big help. You should try it and see how your amp responds.

I'd keep away from the Big Muff.

Salesguy - I can't help him with his lack of pedal knowledge but I'd recommend a pair of classic slip on VANS to end his shoelace problem.

I second the TS. I borrowed a Classic 50 head for a short time. The TS was used as my Lead boost. Worked like a 3rd channel. There are a number of stomp boxes that can get the job done. The trusty BOSS Overdrive is another I've heard through a Classic 50. It sounds meaty.

Classic 50's are great amps! The big problem with them is the shared EQ. You can dial in great clean and distortion tones with that amp, but not at the same time. I used to have one and I used a Bad Monkey or a Boss SD-1 to boost it. I have a sound clip somewhere of me playing my Les Paul > Bad Monkey > Classic 50 > Mesa Recto 2x12.

These are a couple of songs my band at the time was working on. We were just putting them together so the performance isn't the best, but at least it will give you an idea of how heavy the amp can get. If you put a GE7 in the loop and scoop the mids, it gets very brutal believe it or not.
